Grille test: Opel Adam Rocks 1.0 Turbo (85 kW)

Recall: at the start of sales, Adam was available in several body colors, various body accessories and aluminum wheels were available, but he was stuck with engines - there were only three of them. Well, if they satisfied all tastes and desires, it might be good, but three petrol engines (although two were assisted by a turbocharger) did not quite convince. Especially for those drivers who also want sporty dynamics. A hundred “horses” is not a trifle, but a good ton heavy car with a sporty look challenges not only those around you, but also the driver. And if the desire of the driver exceeds the capabilities of the car, the man is quickly disappointed. Like our Alyosha, whom Adam was too offended at first. And it's good that he did (and probably did with many others).

Opel, without hesitation, offered new engines and even body options. The Rocks version doesn't differ much from the classic Adam, but it is slightly longer due to the plastic curbs, and also taller due to the 15 millimeters longer distance from the ground. There is probably no need to point out that this makes it easier for many people to get into the car. But more than the design itself, the Adam or Adam Rocks version impressed with the new engine. Opel's three-liter engine is considered a great product, and it's hard to find someone who disagrees. It is available at Adam Rocks in two versions: 90 and 115 hp. And since I wrote in the introduction that some complained about the lack of power, it is clear that the test Adam Rocks was equipped with a more powerful engine. The combination seems to be great.

Nice car and 115 “horses”. For those still missing, Opel now also offers an S version (which we're already testing and you'll read soon), but let's stay with the Rocks. The liter engine spins with pleasure, at higher revs it sounds even slightly sporty, and the overall impression is positive, as the movement can easily be above average. But, as with all turbocharged engines, in this case the fuel consumption is dynamic. Therefore, Adam Rocks is given more serenity, which can be enriched with an open serial canvas roof. No, Adam Rocks is not a convertible, but the tarp is large and almost replaces the entire roof, which at least makes it smell like a convertible.

evaluation

  • The Adam Rocks is a nice spice, although some may find the difference in design compared to the base version too small. But that's why Rocks remains Adam and that was ultimately Opel's intention as they didn't want to come up with a new model just to improve Adam. With a new three-liter engine, that's for sure.
