More demanding journalists from Auto magazine would have said something with a mouthful about this car, which had India on its road licenses as a manufacturing country, but on the other hand, it had to have relatives while drinking intoxicating tea (since I I didn't) t write mulled wine, right?) hear about the benefits of Balen. Probably everyone will be right.
The new Baleno not only has a more interesting body curve, which in English is called Liquid Flow and therefore is most pronounced in the photographs, but also boasts a more modern platform. Thanks to a more modern technical design, the weight of this car has been reduced by as much as 15 percent, although in one breath they boast that it is 10 percent more rigid. We might have expected more from the road position, as the softer chassis and eco-friendly tires required a little more attention when driving in cold corners, but we were impressed by the precise and soft drivetrain. Admittedly, the 1,2-liter engine, which puts out a mild 66 kilowatts, is matched only with a five-speed manual gearbox, which means 3.400 rpm too high on highway speed limits, but we can safely say that the mechanics good. The pedals are precise and the drivetrain requires a nice right-hand side, which is an increasingly common feature in the quiet Suzuki.
Interestingly, despite the smaller exterior dimensions, there is surprisingly plenty of space in the rear seats, and the trunk, which boasts 355 liters, is large enough. Therefore, despite the five-speed transmission, despite the fuel consumption in the cold, it did not disappoint, since during the test we used about 6,4 liters, mainly when driving in the city, and 5,2 liters on a standard circle. Well, we came to this result after a small recalculation at the gas station, since the trip computer showed even more optimistic figures, the consumption is less than five liters per 100 km, but we still trust the classic calculation more. However, we believe that despite the higher compression ratio in the engine (the successor to the Swift engine of the same displacement!), Consumption has been reduced mainly due to the low weight. Although we listed even more interesting equipment in our test car, 16-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, additional heated front seats, smart key, XNUMX-inch touch-sensitive center display, navigation, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink smartphone connectivity, active cruise control and, you can say in German, the Isofix mount, we sometimes turned our nose up. The material inside is no longer the pride of a modern car, the smart key only controls the entry or exit of passengers and starts the engine, but not the trunk, we did not notice the closed backlit box in front of the passenger. The two very old-fashioned joysticks that protrude in the middle of the dashboard are not a source of pride, and the leather steering wheel also has additional switches under the crossbars, which is neither modern, transparent, nor useful. But everything works, and after a little practice they become less and less annoying.
We can blame the Suzuki Balen for many things, but we can also praise them a lot. Saying goodbye to friends and family, we of course commented again on the V-shaped car: just look at the radiator grille or center console! Whether this means a victory or, in our opinion, a victory, we do not know, but my senior visitors immediately said that it was not bad at all. True, maybe for another family car. Wait a minute, was the seagull too strong, or are we already so old? None of this reaches your heart over time.
