The latter is also true because some of them may have had some design issues during the static premiere. Already at the dealership, the image of the car under the multitude of spotlights is deceiving, and the new Touareg was presented to us in a huge recording studio, again in the spotlight of many spotlights. In such conditions, shadows and lines break in different ways, and, first of all, it is difficult to imagine what the car looks like on the road. Now that the new Touareg is on Slovenian roads and we are used to it, I can only say that everything has fallen into place.

If at the first meeting we thought it would be better, now it seems that the designers have achieved a wonderful result. The new Touareg stands out when it needs to and reaches mid-range when it shouldn't. In the latter, of course, execution is more important than its form. With Volkswagen in the minds of other people, you will not cause as much emotional or even better envious confusion as with similar cars from other brands. And, of course, some appreciate it as much as others who are willing to give it their best.

The Touareg test failed. The classic silver color, which costs only a thousand euros in the modern automotive world, goes well with the car. It retains the original image - it does not make it smaller or larger. It displays lines nicely; the sharpness of those that the human eye should see, and hides those that are not needed for the image of the car.

The front grille is to be commended - thanks to a design approach known for several years now, the front end of the Touareg is fresh enough to be interesting. Obviously, the bigger the car, the more design options, and they used them well in the Touareg.

Just as they took advantage of the interior. Also because the new product is wider and longer, although the wheelbase has remained almost the same. However, the trunk has 113 liters more space, which means that 810 liters of volume are available for all five passengers, but if you fold the rear seat backs, it will increase by almost a thousand liters.

Volkswagens are the cars in the group that are best suited for sports equipment. This is one of the reasons why the test car stood out in its exterior with special rims, different (sporty) bumpers, grilles, and trapezoidal and chrome exhaust trims, which, according to the Touareg designer, are very expensive and are all the most profitable. more pleasant for management is approved). Inside, the feel was enhanced by a premium three-spoke leather steering wheel, silver trim on the dash, stainless steel entry strips on the front sills, and brushed aluminum brushes. Excellence was complemented by heated front seats with a sewn-in R-Line logo, which can be adjusted in all directions thanks to the ergoComfort name. But above all it was white.

However, the interior's biggest star seems to be the optional Innovision Cockpit. It offers two 15-inch screens, one in front of the driver and showing gauges, navigation folders and various other data, and the other, of course, is located at the top of the center console. It is also quite easy to handle due to its size. At the same time, there is a large edge under it, where you can arm yourself with your hand, and then more accurately press the screen with your finger. However, it is unnecessary to write about the fact that it is flexible in every sense. But not all gold glows - so with an almighty screen, you'll still need classic buttons or switches, or at least permanent virtual number buttons that could be used to control an air handling unit. If the temperature can be changed with a single touch, for all other settings, you must first call up the auxiliary display of the ventilation unit, and then define or change the settings. Painstaking.

Although the engine and transmission in such a car are not in the first place (at least for some customers), in the automotive industry, the engine is usually the heart of the car. And the most important thing. It is clear that a good or powerful engine does not help much if the chassis or the whole package is bad. This Touareg is excellent. And not only because it seems so, but simply because it looks like almost all other cars of the concern. And large, that is, prestigious crossovers, and, last but not least, smaller versions or versions of limousines. One of them was the recent Audi A7, which didn't make the same impression as the Touareg. With the latter, everything seems to work more smoothly, and, above all, the transmission runs more smoothly. In other words, there's less squeaking under hard acceleration, but it's true that it's still there. At the same time, it must be admitted that dynamic acceleration is not suitable for such a car, although it is still decent - a mass weighing more than two tons accelerates from standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in just 6,1 seconds, which is only 4 tenths of a second slower the aforementioned sports Audi A7. But, of course, the Touareg is much more than that – also thanks to the air suspension, which can raise the body so high that you can drive with the Touareg not only on gravel, but even on rocky terrain. And while this off-road package does, it seems to me (or at least I hope) that not many drivers will go off the beaten path with such a machine. On them, the car performs much better, even in city traffic, where special attention is paid to the optional management of all four wheels. If the latter is fuzzy in smaller cars, it's immediately noticeable in larger crossovers - when the Touareg turns in the kind of small space that the much smaller Golf needs, you know that all-wheel steering is something special and commendable.

Having said all this, a few words should be said about the headlights. From time immemorial they have done well in this group, but the Touareg's matrix LED headlights (which of course are optional) stand out; They not only shine beautifully and far away (more than 100 meters longer than xenon ones), but also a pleasant novelty is the Dynamic Light Assist system, which darkens the road sign and thereby prevents unpleasant glare when illuminated. And believe me, sometimes powerful headlights without this feature are very annoying.

Below the line, it seems that the new Touareg could be a great alternative for those drivers looking for a nice but discreet car. One has only to consider that the base price is attractive (of course, for such a large car), but a lot of equipment needs to be paid additionally. As with the test car, which, of course, was the reason for the difference between the base and the price of the test car. It wasn’t small, but on the other hand, it’s not even a small car. After all, you just know what you are paying for.
