Test: Volvo V60 Ocean Race

It is clear that he exudes some kind of Swedish charm and spirit, but the association with the first ball is meaningless - Ikea does not stand comparison. At least not completely. Because, as you know, Volvo is well-being, and to the extent that it can and can only be fully convinced by how you feel when you get behind the wheel. And the V60 is at the very center of their offering, which also means the V60 is probably the most quintessential Volvo to date.

Today Volvo, including the V60, is no longer as different from other brands as it once was, at least technically. However, it is still so recognizably different that it couldn't be anything else. He's not inspired by Audi, Beemvee or Benz. And it is right.

What it will bring tomorrow is unknown, but at the moment it is true that (also) the V60 has not been turned into a game console with a battery of electronic toys that do not have a direct connection to the car. Which is undoubtedly good news for many. From this point of view, the V60 is very classic. V60, as already mentioned, convinces, and very successfully, by staying in it, but it manages to convince all the key senses: sight, hearing and touch.

Eyes mostly praise the exterior, but the main thing is the interior. Here, since you're opting for the Ocean race, of course, the color combination is different from the Audi: black is almost completely supplanted, light beige predominates - mostly like solid leather, but also like fabric and plastic. The monotony of this color is broken by the dark brown behind the instrument panel, and, fortunately, the area where the legs are located is dressed in dark color.

The look is also pleasing to the eye - with Volvo's characteristic now thin front console (which seems to have too many buttons, but is logically placed enough to avoid confusion and is simple and intuitive to use), with a simple dashboard but neat moves and seats that promise exactly what they offer: great wellness. The steering wheel is really big, but it's nice to turn and is clearly visible through it with large and beautiful gauges.

It is impossible to compare, as the question is more or less subjective, but it always seems that a great audio system is located in the most acoustic car environment, which is not disturbed by external noise, as well as the characteristic mild smells of the (new) V60. The man in the V60 loves to come back every time.

Therefore, talking about the technical aspects of the V60 seems less reasonable than we are used to. Anyway. The V60 is a sports van, which means it doesn't hold the record for boot space, but it's still useful with the ability to extend the trunk with a 40:20:40 split rear bench and a completely flat bottom with multiple bins. The V60 also has no noticeable complaints about the spaciousness and ergonomics of the cabin.

From the point of view of ease of use and placement in a prestigious carriage, we also have no comments on the engine. The diesel is quiet and loves to turn too, though not necessary as it pampers low to mid-range torque, six automatic gears, and a pretty decently fast (especially important for starting) transmission also provides good coverage of engine curves. If the engine performance and the liveliness of the mechanics in the first third of the accelerator pedal position were not forced to drive more dynamically, such a V60 could also be very economical. The trip computer showed an average consumption of 60 kilometers per hour for four, 100 for 130, 7,2 for 160 and 8,7 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers for XNUMX kilometers.

After all, performance is also a matter of well-being, and they, combined into a single unit called the V60, complement today's mid-size Volvo image very well. So the V60 is easily ahead of the three German competitors for now.

evaluation

  • From an operational point of view, it is difficult to imagine anyone who would not be satisfied with such a Volvo. The strength of the brand is also great and is offered to anyone who does not want to be framed by the German tricolor. Of course, the V60 is expensive enough for all these features.
