Test Lattice: Lexus CT 200h Finesse

A lot of people don't like this, and let's face it, in the compact class there isn't much room for designers to wiggle around, um, indulge. Perhaps this is all the more evident at Lexus (or its parent company Toyota), as they are still building their profile in Europe and cannot afford to go to extremes. You can only refuse Lexus LFA if you understand me. But the goal of their strategists was different: to offer all the technology and prestige in a smaller car, which they did quite well. Let's talk about the tech first: A 1,8-kilowatt electric motor was added to the 73kW 60-liter petrol engine, and all of this was combined into a system that delivers 100 kilowatts or more of domestic 136 "horsepower". Too little? Maybe for dynamic driving, because then the CVT also gets annoyingly loud, but not at all for a comfortable ride when you look at the fuel meter with one eye.

The quietness of city driving is inspiring, even if you're not an electric car enthusiast. That's when the top-notch 10-speaker radio comes to the fore (optional!), And heck, you can even think without worrying about the hum of the engine. A bolder touch of the accelerator pedal, of course, requires immediate assistance from the gasoline engine, and together they provide an average of 4,6 liters on our normal lap. Thus, if you tune your driving to lower fuel consumption, you will be driving a turbodiesel in this car, but without the annoying noise and unpleasant smell of hands when refueling. Then comes the type of equipment. If I wanted to list them all, I would need at least four pages in this magazine, since there are already many help systems.

We can mention the VSC stabilization system, EPS electric power steering, HAC start assist, ECB-R electronically controlled regenerative braking, smart key ... Then there is the Finesse package that adds front fog lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera, metallic gloss paint, navigation and the aforementioned speakers, plus a smart key for help in getting in and out and starting. The price, of course, is not cheap, but check out the photo of the interior, where leather reigns supreme and the center console, which also has corresponding large keys and inscriptions for older drivers. The seats are shell-shaped and the chassis is slightly stiffer than the sporty CT 200h would like. The driver has three driving options: Eco, Normal and Sport.

In the first case, the counters are colored in blue, and in the latter, in red. The chassis on a pothole road can even be a little too stiff, but it still feels good, as other passengers will love it too. We were missing a little more trunk space and a little more storage space, and I personally really liked that the center console was close enough to the driver's starboard side. Would you accept it? Thanks to the comfort and quiet driving around the city, for sure, I would also be very happy at gas stations. That pinch of sportiness that the Prius has never been able to offer is also considered a good thing. Only the price, the shape of the exterior and the size of the trunk slightly surpassed it. What is more important for you?
