Typical Lada Priora malfunctions. Features of repair and maintenance. Specialist recommendations

Hello! I have been working in the service center for the seventh year, since 2005. So Lada Priora, consider the engine. My opinion in general about Priora, as about a car: This car is still crude, not fully thought out by engineers, there are a number of such moments. If we talk about the engine, then it is generally reliable, good, but of course there are diseases. This is the timing belt support bearing and water pump. The stock of the timing belt is generally large - 120 km, but the thrust bearings and pumps can fail much earlier, which can lead to a broken belt. And the consequence is the bending of the valves - engine repair, valve replacement. Although the engines from the VAZ 000 are outwardly similar to the prior ones, they are different inside. The new engine already has other pistons, lightweight connecting rods and a completely different crankshaft.

Lightweight crankshaft on Priore

Transmission. There are practically no questions, as it was on the VAZ 2110, it remained the same. There may be some changes, but they are, let's say, insignificant, and there are no problems.

Suspension. Very frequent calls on the support bearings of the front struts. They are already as big as on some foreign cars with a plastic body and iron gaskets. These bearings, apparently due to insufficient sealing, tend to wedge. That is, dirt gets there and it happens. To determine this problem, you can turn the steering wheel all the way, and such clicks will be heard. The Priora also has weak front hubs. If you get into a good hole, the hub tends to deform. And then vibration begins to appear when braking, but diagnostics will be required, since the problem may be related to the discs.

Still, there is a factory problem on the Lada Priore, so to speak. It is often found that there is a barrel of power steering above the right wheel protection. This barrel is bolted to the body, and apparently sometimes not bolted enough, goes down and starts knocking on the protection. So, if you hear a strange knock, then first check this place if the barrel is knocking on the wheel protection. Otherwise, everything seems to be fine, ball bearings nurse their 100 thousand kilometers, during normal operation, of course. The steering tips also last quite a long time. There were questions about the steering racks, before they had the ability to make an unpleasant sound when the steering wheel was turned. The rail was released a little and the sound disappeared. The rear suspension is very simple and there are no problems with it. He takes care of his time without question. Of course, shock absorbers and springs wear out, but this is already when the mileage is up to 180-200 thousand. But there is such a nuance in the rear suspension: if there are no caps on the rear hubs, then water, dust, dirt gets into the wheel bearings and they quickly fail. Still, there was somehow a moment that the hubs were clamped normally, but had lateral play. It did not create a rumble - but there was a luffy. Under warranty, this was not changed, since it was considered within the normal range.

The rear brakes remain the same, almost no worries. The main thing is that sand and dirt did not get there, otherwise there will be deformation of the drums and brake pads, after which replacement is required.

There is also a question about the stove. The problem with micro motoreducers, which switch the dampers, the motoreducers themselves fail, or the dampers wedge and the gearboxes cannot move them.

Body resistance to corrosion. Basically, corrosion begins to occur on the Priora hood and on the trunk lid, where decorative trims are attached. To summarize, in fact, the main disadvantages are the body, thrust bearings and the stove. If we talk about repairs, then everything is quite normal, parts change without much effort, few of them rust, just with a sufficiently high mileage, the bolts of the rear shock absorbers begin to rust, and difficulties arise with their dismantling. It will also be quite long and labor-intensive to replace the cabin filter. Engineers didn't think of a cabin filter that should be easy to change.
