Top 5 Sports Bombs of the 80s - Sports Cars

Those were turbulent years Eighty... Made with paninari, bright colors, electro pop and turbo engines, but real turbines. Even turbo lag it was one of the most real, be it Formula XNUMX, a world rally with legendary Group B cars or simple road cars. But what we like most in those years is the number of "problem" little cars that were produced in those years: almost all of them are complex, demanding, but very funny.

It's hard to find cars with serious defects these days, even if "defect" isn't the right word, let's just say, such noted characteristics. Like excessive understeer or oversteer, such as weak braking or an empty engine below 3.000 rpm. Well, the little bombshells of the 80s had it all, which is why we love them. And also for their fantastically square appearance. Here is our rating of the 5 best bombs of those years!

Fiat Uno Turbo

Let's start with the style: Fiat Uno Turbo it is one of those machines that we would call "ignorant" today. Four-cylinder turbo engine with 1.3 hp. (electronic injection) might make you smile today, but if you look at the weight of the car and its narrow wheels, you change your mind. Despite the lack of traction (resulting in a monumental understeer when exiting corners), the Uno turbo sprinted from 103 to 0 km / h in 100 seconds and hit 8,1 km / h!

Ford Sierra Cosworth

La Ford Sierra RS Cosworth considered sacred to rally enthusiasts. There's something incredibly sexy about the Cosworth name, as well as the RS lettering and the muscular fenders of this Sierra. But there is also content: the 2.0 turbo engine produced 204 hp. and 270 Nm of torque, dumping it only from the rear wheels (later an integral version was released). From 0-100 km / h in 6,8 seconds and 240 km / h, the Sierra was also a fast and great car to drive.

Lancia Delta HF

In Italy it's bad to talk about Lancia Delta HF integral it's almost a crime. It's actually a beautiful sports car with a timeless design and thoughtful mechanics, but the reliability was incredible. 2.0-liter turbo engine with 165 hp The first version (1986) was coupled to an all-wheel drive system with a viscous joint center differential and a Torsen rear differential with a torque distribution of almost 50-50. A great way to move quickly on any terrain, the proof of this is the number of rallies won.

Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi

Aggressive, noisy, insidious: Peugeot 205 GTi it's all this and more. Its 1.9 naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine produces 130 hp. possessed an enviable singing talent and reach. However, all that weight on the nose (weight 1.9) made the rear end feel decidedly danceable when the throttle was released – exciting if you're a pilot, but terrifying if you're inexperienced. That's not to say that in terms of performance - and aesthetics - it's one of the best compact sports cars ever made. I rode one of them recently, and it's amazing how relevant and interesting it is still.

Renault 5 Turbo

La Renault 5 Turbo 2"Turbona", friends, is the winner of our ranking of the bombing of the 80s. It only takes a second to fall in love with it: its mini-supercar shape (engine in the center) makes it more exotic than any other compact car of yesterday and today. In an enlarged body, air intakes are installed and a 1.4 engine is installed with a supercharged Garret T3 turbine, developing 160 hp. at 6.000 rpm and a torque of 210 Nm at 3.250 rpm. The drive is moved to the rear and uses a dry double-plate clutch, and the gearbox is a 5-speed manual. The performance lives up to its glory: 0-100 km / h in 6,5 seconds and a top speed of 200 km / h, but above all, amazing sound and frame.
