Antifreeze in Kalina-2

If we are talking about cars of the Granta / Kalina-2 family, it is recommended to replace the coolant every 5 years or every 75 km. When performing this operation, it sometimes makes sense to flush the cooling system. Sooner or later, deposits appear on the inner walls of the CO elements, which must be washed out. Do you need flushing or can you get by with replacing the standard fluid, let's try to figure it out further.

We will talk about how best to flush the Lada Kalina-2 cooling system in the last chapter. There are several suitable options, but ideally, distilled water (chemically pure water) is required. Now let's try to figure out how the regular CO is arranged and how it works, which cools the VAZ 21116-21126 (27) engines. So, in any cooling system there are two circuits - large and small.

The large circuit contains a radiator located behind the bumper. The small circuit, in turn, serves to supply the coolant to the stove. A node called a "thermostat" is included in both circuits at once, but a valve located in a thermostat can close a large circuit. In order for this valve to open slightly, it is necessary to heat the coolant to 85 C. An important conclusion follows from this.

After replacing the antifreeze, it is recommended to start the engine by setting the regulator on the stove to "maximum". For the warm season, this statement is also true. This is how, according to theory, a sharp drop in the temperature of the car's CO can be avoided, which applies not only to Kalina-2.

The computer of the "second Kalina" learned to display the temperature of antifreeze not so long ago. Therefore, the above tips will be doubly relevant. We are interested in how easy it is to drain antifreeze from the cooling system. It turns out that there are two stubs for this. One of them is screwed into the radiator tank, and the second closes the drilled hole in the engine cooling jacket.

Instructions for replacing antifreeze in the Kalina / Grant engine cooling system

To replace the coolant, you need to drain the old antifreeze, tighten the drain plugs and fill the reservoir with new fluid. Follow these steps step by step:

1. We unscrew the plastic plug screwed into the drain hole of the radiator tank (circled in Fig. 2);
2. Drain the coolant into a suitable container, the volume of which is 6 liters or more;
3. We unscrew the cap of the expansion tank, the same one that is used to fill antifreeze;
4. Drain the rest of the coolant;
5. We transfer the container under the engine;
6. We unscrew the drain plug from the cylinder block with a 13 hex wrench (see Fig. 2);
7. Drain the rest of the coolant;
8. We wrap both drain plugs.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated here. But it is better to first study the recommendations below.

Drain plug for engine and radiator

To access the plastic radiator cap, remove the center fender from the engine bay. On Kalina Cross, it may be necessary to remove other parts that make up the off-road body kit. The plug screwed into the engine cover cannot be unscrewed without removing the ignition coil. And before doing this action, remove the negative battery terminal.

Any manipulations are carried out only on a cooled engine. Always disconnect the negative battery terminal.

After draining the coolant, both plugs should be in place. Then the system is filled with new coolant, pouring it into the expansion tank to the “MAX” mark. The tank cap is screwed on and the engine is started, while the stove is turned on to "maximum". As the coolant level drops, it normalizes. Remember that when the engine is running, the plug remains screwed on.

When operating Kalina-2, use the following brands of coolant:

• Cool Stream Standard or Premium
• Felix Carbox-40
• Tosol-TS "Felix"

Materials of the indicated grades must not be mixed. The volume of liquid poured into the CO engine is 7,84 liters.

Flushing the cooling system of Kalina-2 and Grant cars, people's councils

Symptoms, the presence of which indicates deposits in pipes or other elements of the cooling system, have long been known:

• The stove in the living room does not heat well;
• The motor often overheats (although the problem may be in the fan);
• The value of the coolant temperature varies over a wide range and does not remain approximately at the same level.

All tips on how to flush the cooling system of Kalina-2, Grants and any other car can be considered similar. It seems to be enough to get rid of the old coolant to fill the system with a cleaning solution. Then, starting the engine, you need to wait 20-30 minutes. When the engine cools down, the solution is removed, replacing it with antifreeze. If necessary, the washing step is repeated several times.

A cleaning solution is a distillate or mixture of something with tap water. For 6 liters of water, you can drink 3 liters of 7% vinegar and walk like this for a day. Or it is proposed to use "antikarioz", as well as "Coca-Cola" or "Sprite". The safety of these methods is questionable.

Tampering with vital vehicle systems will void the warranty. However, the warranty period for cars of the "berry" family is three years or 50 thousand km. And the replacement of antifreeze is carried out immediately after this period, if this is not associated with a breakdown. Use all of the above tips at your own risk.
