Toyota Aygo X: a small crossover with a canvas sunroof that will only be available in Europe

Toyota has brought to life one of its concept cars, the small crossover Aygo X, which combines technology and unique design with a sliding canvas roof. The Aygo X will only be available in Europe in early 2022 and will be one of the favorites.

Earlier this year, Toyota showed off the Aygo X Prologue Concept, a powerful hatchback that anticipated a future model to be sold in Europe. Well, the stock Aygo X debuted on Friday, and it's even cuter than the concept.

Appearance of Aigo X

While the Aygo X Prologue was developed at Toyota's European design and development center in Nice, France, production of the Aygo X was completed at Toyota Motor Europe's design department in Belgium. Aygo X has a distinctive front end with a protruding nose, large headlights and a large lower grille. Its rear overhang is absolutely tiny, with the C-pillar leaning forward giving the impression of the Aygo X rushing forward, and tall taillights framing the one-piece glass sunroof. It's available with wheels up to 18 inches in diameter, and the Aygo X has large, fun-shaped plastic fender flares. Just like the old Aygo, the Aygo X is offered with a canvas convertible roof.

Available in four colors and a special edition

Toyota says its customers are increasingly demanding "style, distinction and the ability to make a statement," so the Aygo X was designed with a "bright color concept" in mind. Essentially, every Aygo X features a two-tone bodywork that combines royal color with numerous black sections, especially on the roof and rear. Colors featured are cardamom (dark green), chili (red), ginger (rose gold) and juniper (blue), in addition to a special limited edition that pairs cardamom dye with tangerine accents.

Exquisite interior and full of technology

The interior of the Aygo X is just as beautiful as the exterior. The door sills are made of metal, a cost-saving measure that brings bright color accents to the interior, and matching color accents are found on the infotainment system's oval surround, gear lever and steering wheel. One thing that stands out is the oval interior theme, especially around the air vents. Every Aygo X has a 9-inch central touchscreen and instrument cluster, as well as physical climate control. The front seats have interesting stitching patterns and X motif color accents, while the rear seats are more subdued.

Despite its diminutive size and entry-level status, Toyota has packed the Aygo X with a ton of stuff. Available features include full LED lighting, wireless device charging, external interior lighting, wireless software updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian and cyclist detection, emergency steering assist, and GPS-based navigation. Owners can download a smartphone app to monitor their Aygo X's fuel levels and other statistics, as well as track the vehicle.

Affordable engine and excellent fuel efficiency

When it comes to powertrains, there's only one choice: a 1.0-horsepower naturally aspirated 72-liter three-cylinder engine, the same as the Yaris, mated to either a five-speed manual or continuously variable transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive isn't even offered. Toyota says the Aygo X has one of the tightest turning radii in its class, and ride comfort and body roll have been improved.

Aygo X will go on sale in Europe in early 2022. Its starting price will likely be the equivalent of $17,000 to $20,000, with fully loaded models costing more than $XNUMX.
