Toyota Corolla in the hatchback version, it is the direct successor to the Auris. I'm not surprised that the name has been changed because it's a completely different car. Toyota decided to break away from designing cars that sell well but look boring.

In my opinion Corolla it looks great. It has a very dynamic shape, especially in a hatchback, and in combination with a black roof, even the silver color looks interesting.

The hatchback is 28 cm shorter than the station wagon. Both cars are equally wide and have the same 153cm track, but the hatchback has a 6cm shorter wheelbase.

This is because each option is slightly different. The sedan goes to the most conservative audience, so it does not look as dynamic as the hatchback and station wagon. In turn, the station wagon and the sedan should be a little more comfortable, so the rear suspension works differently in them - so that passengers riding in the back are more comfortable.

The hatchback is different. This car should be the most dynamic, the most compact of the three. In the Selection version, it takes on an even more interesting character with a black roof and 18-inch rims.

More sports

The advantage of the Selection version is also the very nicely designed sports seats. They are made of fabric and Alcantara as standard and provide very good lateral support.

There are no differences from other versions of the body in the cab. We have a digital clock, a multifunction steering wheel, a distinctive tablet on the dashboard and a rather elegant air conditioning panel. Toyota she also left a microwave clock at Auris.

It's dark in this interior at night because Toyota I think she forgot about ambient lighting. And I didn’t even forget, because in the price list under the Selection version there is such an item as “additional LED mood lighting system” and it says that it is standard, but only cup holders shine gloomily. If you put something there, it will no longer be so capricious.

When looking for a way to turn on this lighting, I also found the air conditioning settings. I found something like efficient ventilation mode. Therefore, if you want ventilation to be inefficient, be sure to turn it off.

However, the overall interior finish deserves a big plus. The entire dashboard is trimmed with eco-leather - this is also a feature of the Selection version. New Toyota Corolla it is interestingly designed and well made. So good that it even “smells” like a premium segment. How else to call the smell in the cabin, which comes directly from the Lexus?

The range of adjustment of the position behind the wheel does not suit me at all. The range is not so much inappropriate as the intervals between settings are quite large. So, at 1,86m, I either sit at the correct distance from the handlebars, but too close to the pedals, or adequately at the pedals, but too far from the handlebars. That's how my Toyota is in most cases, so if you pay attention to the driving position, check with a car dealership if it suits you.

The trunk holds 361 liters. Corolla is one of the first compacts of the new generation, so the trunk can be compared with another new generation compact - the Volkswagen Golf 8. The Golf holds 21 liters more, so let's say that these are very comparable values. this should be sufficient for users of hatchback models. Universal, on the other hand, it's a completely different league, Corolla TS holds up to 235 liters more.

We are testing Toyota Corolla in version 1.2 Turbo. It has a power of 116 hp. and 185 Nm in the range from 1500 to 4000 rpm. It accelerates to 100 km/h in 9,3 seconds.

It does not look super dynamic, but driving a car is not only acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h. The way you drive is still important.

And this one in Corolla a very positive hatchback - and certainly the most dynamic among the available body versions. The car is very compact and responds quickly to steering movements.

The handlebar is a little empty in the middle, it works much better only at large deflections. There is also a sport mode that significantly improves this characteristic.

We tested the 6-speed manual version and it must be admitted that its operation definitely adds a touch of flair to the handling. Corolla. Tracks are laid out neatly with clicks when shifting gears. I associate it more with sports cars - a similar gearbox is, for example, in the Subaru WRX STI!

The suspension responds quickly to our movements with gas and steering and encourages us to drive faster without losing heart. Even at higher speeds, Corolla rides very confidently.

The engine itself is not really a dynamics demon. Its lower rev range is quite weak and it loses steam fairly quickly under faster acceleration and redline acceleration.

I thought turbo lag on most cars was a thing of the past, but not yet. Corolla, at least not with the 1.2 engine. After pressing the gas, you have to wait a while before the turbo accelerates and gives the desired thrust.

And as if that weren't enough, the engine is still accompanied by a howl. Once you pay attention to it, it can annoy you forever.

Fuel economy plus. "On paper" Toyota Corolla it was supposed to consume an average of about 5,8 l / 100 km. In fact, the city was about 7-7,5 l / 100 km. As for me, the value is normal, but we must remember that it all depends on the degree of use of the turbocharger. If you use it frequently, consumption may increase significantly.
