Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series and HiLux in view of Ineos with planned Grenadier sister products

The Ineos Grenadier platform will include a mining SUV as well as a hydrogen-powered version.

In an automotive world where manufacturers struggle to fill new niches every day, with the inevitable proliferation of models, it seems that Ineos is ready to go it alone.

Discussions with the brand's Australian marketing team this week indicated that the company believes it can survive as a one-platform brand.

But the secret will be to create multiple variations on the same platform.

This was announced by the Australian marketing manager of Ineos Automotive Tom Smith. Cars Guide that the company could definitely survive with only one platform in production.

“This (Grenadier SUV) may seem like a passion project, but ultimately it is for profit,” he said.

“And the business case is building.

“A company can be competitive with one product line.

And this is where several products with the same basic architecture appear. Of course, this is nothing new; Every major automaker is working on or implementing modular or scalable platforms to represent as many different products as possible from a single DNA sample.

“There is room for many variations on one platform, not completely new platforms. Everything is customizable, including our manufacturing facilities,” Mr. Smith said.

Ineos has already announced some details about the first new car, which will be based on the Grenadier platform with a live axle and coil springs.

The double cab version of the car will compete with the likes of the Toyota 70 Series and Jeep Gladiator and, like Jeep, will have a longer wheelbase than its donor car.

We also know that the double cab Ineos will have a 3500 kg towing capacity and a one tonne payload, making it a real contender in its segment.

The next cab in the lineup will be the two-seat version of the Grenadier, which is clearly aimed at the LandCruiser for mining and industries such as first responders.

Instead of new platforms, variations on the Ineos lineup are likely to be centered around alternative fuels, including hydrogen, which already makes up a large part of Ineos' larger global operation.
