Toyota plans to restore used cars and offer them as new cars

Toyota could buy a few used cars to put them through the restoration process, make them like new, and sell them back to the market. However, this is a project that will be launched in Toyota UK and has not yet been considered for the United States.

Refurbished devices are nothing new, but the idea of refinishing a car to be like new? An interesting proposal to extend the life cycle of the car. Toyota UK believes this could be the ticket to extending the vehicle's life cycle for customers.

New mobility sub-brand

Agustin Martin, president and general manager of Toyota UK, said the process will form the basis of a new mobility sub-brand called Kinto.

According to Martin, the idea is to take the car after the first cycle of use, as a rental period, and return it to the factory. There it will be redesigned to "best standards" and ready for a second cycle with a driver. Toyota may do this one more time before turning its attention to responsible vehicle recycling. This can include reusing car parts that are still in good condition, refurbishing batteries, and more.

The Toyota auto repair program is not yet launched in the US.

Toyota USA noted that this program is still in its early stages in the UK and cannot share more information. The spokesperson also declined to comment on the possibility of an upgrade program in the US.

A measure that can cause intrigue among buyers

Even outside of a mobility service, the idea of offering refurbished vehicles for sale, rental or subscription models can be very intriguing to car buyers. As the prices of new and used cars skyrocket, this could be the sweet spot, opening up a new revenue and customer path for Toyota.

The show is currently centered on Toyota's Burnaston plant, which makes the Corolla hatchback and Corolla station wagon. Perhaps, if all goes well, we will be able to see similar schemes in many factories around the world.
