Toyota RAV4 Hybrid not tough enough for you? The new SsangYong KR10 SUV will be equipped with environmentally friendly engines.

The new SsangYong SUV promises to be "strong".

First Great Wall fired a warning shot at the nose of the Toyota LandCruiser Prado with a new sketch detailing the beefed-up Tank 600, which is expected to be powered by a new V6 engine.

And now SsangYong has joined the Toyota hunt group along with another Korean - miscellaneous - the automaker is unveiling a preview of its new KR10 SUV that promises to be "powered by durability" yet offer environmentally friendly vehicles, a beefed up answer to the RAV4 hybrid of sorts.

That is if it shows up in the real world as a midsize SUV, which it looks like it will. If it's less than that, then the Suzuki Jimny may have more luxurious competition.

While details on what exactly will be powered remain scarce, the brand promises that "the brand will not only solidify its position as a genuine SUV brand that meets customer needs, but will also use environmentally friendly powertrains, most responding to the biggest trend in the automotive industry that is changing the way we drive in the future.”

There are higher demands on the cool SUV: the brand promises it acts like a "line in the sand" and all future vehicles from SsangYong will take a similarly aggressive design approach.

So what do we know about this? Not much, but if you sketch something to go back, it will be wide, stiff and a bit like a Ford Bronco, with images showing a large square rear (where there is something that looks like a spare tire carried from the outside) . and a beefy front end with what looks like thick skid plate underbody protection, and a vaguely Jeep-like grille that separates the spotter-style headlights.

It looks tough, and as it turns out, that's exactly what SsangYong is aiming for.

“We have reimagined our future design vision and product philosophy, building on our unique heritage. With the upcoming J100 and KR10 models, we have drawn a line in the sand in terms of design, and everything will follow this new brand design direction from now on,” says Li Kang, Head of SsangYong Design Center.

“This is a very exciting time for SsangYong and we will build on the history and heritage of our unique and distinctly authentic SUV designs to impress our customers in the future.”

An exciting future, sure, but also under some kind of cloud. As we reported last week, the Korean automaker is between owners, and Indian giant Mahindra is in the process of transferring the brand, possibly to US firm Cardinal One Motors, which is trying to raise the necessary capital. .

As if that weren't enough, SsangYong also faced debt problems, bankruptcy and the temporary closure of its car assembly plant in Korea.
