The 2022 Toyota Tundra is the only truck that hasn't dropped in sales despite the chip shortage.

Chip shortages, inflation, and the recent Russo-Ukrainian war have caused sales of most truck models to drop. However, the Toyota Tundra remains a winner and has even managed to boost its sales while models like the Tacoma are showing inflation.

There's a storm brewing in the auto industry, but maybe you can take refuge in as it's the only truck that hasn't lost sales. Inflation, semiconductor shortages and other supply issues could cause other trucks like the Ford F-150 to sink. But why is the 2022 Toyota Tundra still strong? That's why.

All Trucks Except Toyota Tundra Have Declined Sales

According to GoodCarBadCar, all trucks have experienced a decline in sales in the US, except for the Tundra. GoodCarBadCar collects data on all US car sales every month. The numbers are then compared with the number of sales compared to the same month last year. But monthly and yearly sales are combined with a growth column to easily measure individual vehicle sales and growth.

Tundra sales have really increased

We see Tundra sales up 15.67%, Ford F-150 sales down 29.82%, Honda Ridgeline sales down 35.99%, and even the incredibly popular Toyota Tacoma down 21.35%.

Why are truck sales falling?

The Toyota Tundra finds itself in a rare position: ramping up production rather than delaying it. For example, you can't even ask for it right now. Some trucks cannot meet the high demand.

This could play into the Tundra's hands as people rush to buy new trucks. Due to the limited number of new options, people are forced to consider used trucks. This led to price inflation for used cars.

Inflation of some models

Toyota Tacoma is so overpriced that used prices are almost equal to the cost of a new model. In fact, you can save money by buying new rather than used. However, Toyota may use its chips for the Tundra instead of other options. People have been waiting months for their Toyota Tacoma orders without much upgrade. So some trucks are not available and others are stuck in limbo.

In addition, the current shortage of semiconductor chips is wreaking havoc. Some vehicles, such as the Ford Bronco, also have equipment delays caused by supply chain issues.

How long to wait Tundra?

In November 2021, the 2022 Toyota Tundra was expected to be on the waiting list for four to nine months. The Tundra TRD was supposed to be delayed by nine months to 1 year as the most complex model.

However, some Tundra models have already begun to arrive. Fully loaded Tundra models could arrive by the end of the year, and you can order them from your local Toyota dealer. Meanwhile, other trucks and SUVs may not appear until 2023 at the earliest.
