And this is quite understandable. In terms of resource, cost and ease of maintenance, mechanics are far ahead of other types of transmissions.
Gazpromneft gear oil is one of the most interesting products on the lubricants market. In addition to availability and a wide range of applications, these lubricants are notable for their low cost.

Gazpromneft 80W-90 GL-4
This product is most often used in equipment manufactured in the Russian Federation. The viscosity of the lubricant ensures trouble-free operation at ambient temperatures down to -26°C.
The summer viscosity parameter, in contrast to the classification of motor oils, shows that at the operating temperature of the transmission unit, the kinematic viscosity ranges from 13,5 to 24 cSt.
The API GL-4 approval indicates that this grease is suitable for use in synchromesh gearboxes and other hypoid transmission assemblies operating under medium to heavy loads. Oil "Gazpromneft" 80W-90 received the approval of AvtoVAZ.
Gazpromneft 80W-90 GL-5
Technologically more advanced representative of the previous gear oil. At the same viscosity, the API grade increased by one point: to GL-5. GL-5 grade greases have higher extreme pressure and protective properties.
In general, they have the best energy-saving and lubricating properties. Able to withstand heavy loads. However, its use in synchronized manual transmissions, especially older ones, is limited.
If the vehicle's operating instructions do not have permission to work with GL-5 lubricant, it is better not to use this lubricant. 80W-90 GL-5 oil has received laboratory approvals from the following automakers: AvtoVAZ, Scania STO-1.0 and MAN 342 M2.
Gazpromneft 80W-85 GL-4
Transmission oil with reduced summer viscosity. In general, it has the same tolerances as Gazprom 80W-90 GL-4. It is used in less loaded units, where the use of lubricants with such a viscosity is acceptable, or in regions with a colder climate.
Gazprom gear oils are created using self-distilling base oil and high-tech additives from foreign manufacturers.

They have decent anti-corrosion performance. It does not cause accelerated corrosion of non-ferrous metal elements used in transmission units of domestic equipment due to the low sulfur content.

Lubricants for Gazprom transmission units are a rather controversial product. It is impossible to say unequivocally whether it is worth using or better to choose a different lubricant. Here, each driver decides for himself, depending on the desired result and financial capabilities.

- One of the lowest costs among products with similar properties and tolerances. Low price is the main factor determining demand.
- In general, a balanced set of properties that does not have pronounced shortcomings. Oil in units that are not subjected to extreme loads works perfectly.
- Wide availability. You can buy Gazpromneft gear oils in almost any store or service station, even in remote regions of the Russian Federation. That is, there are no problems with replenishment or recharging.
- There are no fakes on the market. Due to the low cost of original Gazprom oils, it is unprofitable for manufacturers to fake these lubricants.
Lubricants "Gazpromneft" also have a number of disadvantages.
- The inability to protect the transmission units of modern imported cars operating under high loads from accelerated wear. A fairly simple and low-tech base, despite a good package of additives, does not allow Gazpromneft oils to withstand high-amplitude loads.
- Usually short shelf life. This disadvantage is more than offset by low cost. And as a result, changing gear oil is economical, even if the interval between the next maintenance is halved.
- Incompatibility with some transmission units due to corrosiveness. First of all, this applies to imported cars that have the required API class on GL-5 transmission units.

The oil showed itself well in gearboxes and axles of all VAZ models. These lubricants behave no worse in the transmissions of other domestic cars, such as GAZ, UAZ and KamAZ.
Reviews about Gazpromneft 80W-90 and 80W-85 oil, which are available in open sources, are often contradictory.

- Gazprom Neft lubricants have proven themselves well in vehicle components that have the appropriate SAE and API approvals, as well as recommendations from car manufacturers;
- if you change the oil more often than indicated in the lubrication map, then in most cases there are no problems;
- for transmission units operating in severe conditions, it is better to find a more expensive and technologically advanced synthetic base oil.
Gazpromneft lubricants are an excellent solution for simple domestic and foreign cars. The main thing is to monitor the level and condition of the lubricant, replace it in time and not violate the standards regarding tolerances.
