Trasological examination in case of an accident: procedure and prices

Trasological examination refers to a branch of forensic science that studies traces, methods and causes of their appearance, as well as detection methods.

The main objectives of such an examination are as follows:

  • identify and identify various kinds of objects in their tracks (for example, a specific place of collision of cars can be identified by the features of glass scree);
  • determine whether the traces on the car relate to the accident that happened (for example, one or another part is characteristically damaged on the car);
  • determine the common origin of different elements (for example, whether fragments of headlight glass belong to the vehicle being checked).

In other words, this is a type of autotechnical research that studies the traces of traffic accidents both on cars and at the accident site itself.

What does trasological research study?

The range of issues that a professional tracer deals with in the performance of his duties is quite wide:

  • determination of the mechanism of collision of cars;
  • the sequence of appearance of damage on the body in a collision with an obstacle;
  • damage assessment, determination of those that appeared as a result of an accident;
  • whether the damage on the car after the accident corresponds to those that were declared as a result of another accident;
  • finding out whether the bumper was damaged due to an accident or due to illegal actions of the owner of the vehicle;
  • what condition the cars were in at the time of the accident (the condition can be dynamic or static);
  • the possibility that damage to the car body was obtained as a result of illegal actions of a third party (for example, hitting an unknown car).

We also note that only a competent expert who meets all the requirements of a state and non-state nature is entitled to conduct such studies.

When should I apply for a trace examination?

There are a number of cases in which such an examination is desirable or even necessary:

  • You have received a refusal from the insurance company regarding the payment of compensation after an accident.
  • You want to challenge the decision of the traffic police about who is to blame for the accident.
  • Your driver's license was confiscated for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident in which you were involved.

If you find yourself in one of the situations described, follow our instructions.

Examination procedure

Step 1

First you need to prepare a documentary basis for what happened. These are various documents or materials, a specific list of which will be announced to you by an expert tracer.

But you can still make an approximate list of everything you need:

  • scheme of the place of the accident (compiled by the traffic inspectorate). We already wrote about how to compose it on the vodi.su portal;
  • video or photographic materials from the scene of the accident (witnesses, participants, etc.);
  • inspection report (compiled by a representative of law enforcement agencies);
  • certificate of a traffic accident (from the same authorities);
  • a document on the inspection and verification of the technical condition of the car, confirming its malfunction;
  • photographs taken by an expert;
  • court photography materials;
  • cars affected by an accident, for a visual inspection of damage.

Of course, this is not a strict list of documentation, because the severity of what happened and, as a result, the amount of information can be different. But for a general acquaintance, this list is quite enough.

Step 2

Next, present all the collected documents to the expert. He will develop a detailed plan of further actions and will contact you. When talking, try to describe everything that happened to him in as much detail as possible.

Step 3

The expert will inspect the damaged vehicle and (if necessary) the accident site itself. In addition, there may be a need to investigate other vehicles involved in the accident.

Step 4

Having collected all the data he needs, the trace expert will draw up a conclusion. When working on this document, he may need additional explanations, so make sure that he has your contacts (e-mail, phone number) where he can quickly contact you.

Step 5

The conclusion is sent to you by mail or by courier service.

The cost of trace services

Below is the average cost of the examination. Of course, it depends on the circumstances under which the study will be conducted. So, if it is carried out in a pre-trial order, then you will have to pay the expert about 9 thousand rubles, and if already by court order, then all 14 thousand. Prices are given for the Moscow region and refer to only one issue, which will be dealt with by a representative of an expert firm.
