Trollstigen, or the Troll Road - find out why it's worth a ride!
Trollstigen is a scenic route located in Norway full of beautiful views. It is included in the group of the most beautiful roads in this country. Among other things, there is an observation deck from which you can admire the extraordinary landscapes, as well as the beautiful Stigfossen waterfall. Shops and restaurants are located along the route, especially in areas created to allow unobstructed views, which makes the route very attractive for tourists. It is passed only a few months of the year, when the weather conditions are satisfactory enough to pass it without any obstacles. The incredible charm of the track, combined with a slightly gloomy and almost unreal atmosphere, makes it called the Troll Road.
Trollstigen - a route that impresses at every meter
Trollstigen and others. The Troll Road or Troll Staircase is a scenic route located in Norway, included in the group of 18 most beautiful. This is a section of about 6 km with a climb of 500 meters. The highest point of the route is at an altitude of 700 m above sea level. The closest to the Troll Road are: the city of Åndalsnes in the north and Valldal in the south. It is best to take pictures of Trollstigen from observation platforms located along the route. Entrance to them is completely free, so it is worth stopping at least for a minute to feel the atmosphere of this place. Particularly attractive in terms of views is the platform next to the aforementioned Stigfossen waterfall, located in the immediate vicinity of a small parking lot. Stopping only at viewing platforms is important not only for the views, but above all for safety. It's definitely a safer alternative than taking photos in the middle, which is more of a threat and makes traffic unnecessarily difficult.
Trollstigen - a route for experienced
Although Trollstigen may seem inconspicuous, the road that leads through the entire route is very demanding.
It is usually very busy, which makes it quite crowded. Significant crowding and significant incline are not the only problems people face when traveling this unique route. Then there are serpentines and extremely sharp turns that require a lot of experience from the driver of a car or motorcycle. On a narrow road, you need to be especially careful, especially if it is crowded and has as many as 11 sharp turns.
The Trollstigen section is only a fragment of the entire route of more than 100 km called Geiranger-Trollstigen, which requires a full ferry crossing. The road is open only during the summer season, i.е. around mid-May. It happens, however, that due to adverse weather conditions it is opened only in June. It is at this time that it becomes very crowded here. The route closes in the fall. During this time, it remains completely impassable.
Due to its popularity and aesthetic value, it attracts many tourists. The Norwegian climate combined with the difficult and exciting route make the Troll Wall a real attraction.
