TVR Tuscan: ICONICARS – Auto Sportive

Maybe someone has forgotten about it, but the bankrupt British carmaker TVR makes beautiful cars. TVR Tuscan is a swan song

La TVR has a troubled history. Founded Trevor Wilkinson, Blackpool, 1947., he went through several dark times, falling into the hands of Russians in the early 2000s, and then completely bankrupt.

In fact, TVR has always had a bad reputation: car - extremely - unreliable and especially difficult to drive... Not because they were bad dynamics, but because they were clean, powerful machines, not for the faint of heart.

No electronic controls, no ABS, light weight and big motors: here's the recipe. Obviously, the traction was rear and manual transmission.

TUSCAN TVR

La TVR Tuscan this is perhaps the best car that has just come out of the factory gates. Its alien tapered lines are timeless, and all those little spotlights and twisted interiors make it insane and intimidating. Designed by Damien McTaggert expresses anger and sensitivity at every turn, with a classic tapered line (vaguely reminiscent of the Dodge Viper) but very British style.

They say that internal commands TVR don't follow any logic that instead of controlling the windshield wipers, we find radio controls, and that in order to turn on the car, you have to search for the right button within a few minutes, and we love that.

Indeed, its formidable appearance reflects well its technical characteristics.

A motor masterpiece pulsates under the front hood, lo and behold "Speed six": inline six 3,6 liters with 360 hp. (400 in latest versions).

Il frame made of steel, and the fiberglass body guaranteed a dry weight of just over 1.000 kg; You can imagine how fast the TVR Tuscan was.

Le suspensions with double triangles at the front and rear left no doubt about the extreme soul of the car, the gearbox was manual with 5 gear ratios, but sufficient given the huge torque of the six-cylinder engine.

WIDOW MANUFACTURER

With a specific gravity of all 3,0 kg on CV, TVR Tuscan removed from 0-100 km / h in 4 seconds and touched me 300 km / h... As I said, the TVR was not easy to drive: the Tuscan was a tough car and required excellent handling skills. The lack of traction, super-responsive steering, and a not-so-genuine chassis made it very unfriendly when driving at its limits.

4,3 meters long, 1,8 meters wide and with a pitch of only 2,3 meters, in fact she was too nervous in the mix. The steering was quick enough to knock you off the road on the first sneeze, while the torque of the flat-six-in-six-six could overload the rear wheels at any moment. This is not one of those cars that you can safely drive on a rainy day.

But it did it exciting, extreme and different from all other sports cars, somewhere between Lotus and muscle car.

The Tuscan was produced from 1999 to 2006 at prices ranging from 68.000 to almost € 100.000 XNUMX. Various modifications to the Tuscan (including the S and R) have resulted in increased displacement and engine power, as well as minor styling updates.
