UAZ Hunter - technical specifications: dimensions, perspiration consumption, clearance
The Soviet SUV UAZ-469 was produced almost unchanged from 1972 to 2003. However, in 2003, it was decided to modernize it and the production of its updated version, the UAZ Hunter, was launched.
UAZ Hunter is a frame SUV that goes under the serial number UAZ-315195. At first glance, it seems that it is no different from its predecessor, but if you understand its technical characteristics, as well as take a closer look at the interior and exterior, then the changes become noticeable.
Let us consider in more detail the technical characteristics of this legendary car.
Engines
Okhotnik leaves the assembly line equipped with one of three motors:
UMP-4213 - This is a 2,9-liter gasoline injection engine. Its maximum power of 104 hp is reached at 4000 rpm and maximum torque of 201 Nm at 3000 rpm. The device is in-line, 4 cylinders. In terms of environmental friendliness, it meets the Euro-2 standard. The highest speed that can be developed on this engine is 125 km / h.
It is difficult to call it economical, since the consumption is 14,5 liters in the combined cycle and 10 liters on the highway.
ZMZ-4091 - This is also a gasoline engine with an injection system. Its volume is slightly less - 2,7 liters, but it is able to squeeze out more power - 94 kW at 4400 rpm. This engine, like the previous one, is an in-line 4-cylinder. Its consumption in the combined cycle is approximately 13,5 liters with a compression ratio of 9.0. Accordingly, the AI-92 will become the optimal fuel for it. The highest speed is 130 km / h. The environmental standard is Euro-3.
ZMZ 5143.10 It is a 2,2 liter diesel engine. Its maximum power rating of 72,8 kW (99 hp) is reached at 4000 rpm, and the maximum torque of 183 Nm at 1800 rpm. That is, we have a standard diesel engine that demonstrates its best qualities at low revs.
The maximum speed that can be developed on a UAZ Hunter equipped with this diesel engine is 120 km / h. The most optimal consumption is 10 liters of diesel fuel at a speed of 90 km/h. The engine complies with Euro-3 environmental standards.
Looking at the characteristics of the UAZ-315195 engines, we understand that it is ideal for driving on roads of not the best quality, as well as off-road. But acquiring a "Hunter" as a city car is not entirely profitable - a very high fuel consumption.
transmission, suspension
If we compare the Hunter with its predecessor, then in the technical part, the suspension has undergone the most changes. So, now the front suspension is not spring, but spring dependent type. An anti-roll bar is installed to swallow holes and potholes. Shock absorbers are hydropneumatic (gas-oil), telescopic type.
Thanks to two trailing arms that fall on each shock absorber and a transverse link, the stroke of the shock absorber rod is increased.
The rear suspension is dependent on two springs, backed up again by hydropneumatic shock absorbers.
For off-road driving, the UAZ Hunter, like the UAZ-469, is fitted with 225/75 or 245/70 tires, which are worn on 16-inch wheels. The discs are stamped, that is, the most affordable option. In addition, it is stamped wheels that have a certain level of softness - they absorb vibrations upon impact, while cast or forged wheels are quite hard and are not designed for off-road travel.
Ventilated disc brakes are installed on the front axle, drum brakes on the rear axle.
UAZ Hunter is a rear-wheel drive SUV with a hard-wired front-wheel drive. The gearbox is a 5-speed manual, there is also a 2-speed transfer case, which is used when the front-wheel drive is on.
Dimensions, interior, exterior
In terms of its dimensions, the UAZ-Hunter fits into the category of mid-size SUVs. Its body length is 4170 mm. Width with mirrors - 2010 mm, without mirrors - 1785 mm. Thanks to the wheelbase increased to 2380 mm, there is more space for rear passengers. And the ground clearance is just perfect for driving on bad roads - 21 centimeters.

It is noticeable to the naked eye that the designers did not worry too much about the convenience of the driver: the panel is made of black plastic, the instruments are located inconveniently, especially the speedometer is almost under the steering wheel, and you have to bend over to see its readings. It is felt that the car belongs to the budget SUVs.
The car was designed for the harsh Russian winters, so the stove without a temperature controller, you can only control the direction of the flow and its strength with a damper.
Air ducts are located only under the windshield and front dashboard. That is, in winter, with a large number of people in the cabin, fogging of the side windows cannot be avoided.
The exterior is a little more attractive - plastic or metal bumpers with fog lights installed in them, metal protection for the front suspension and steering rods, a hinged rear door with a spare tire in a case. In a word, we have a fairly inexpensive car with minimal amenities for driving in Russian off-road conditions.

Prices in the salons of official dealers currently range from 359 to 409 thousand rubles, but this is taking into account all discounts under the recycling program and on credit. If you buy without these programs, you can add at least another 90 thousand rubles to the indicated amounts. Please note that for the 70th anniversary of the Victory, a limited Victory Series was released - the body is painted in the Trophy protective color, the price is from 409 thousand rubles.
Well, based on our own experience of using this car and from the reviews of other drivers, we can say the following:
- patency is good;
- a lot of marriage - clutch, radiator, lubrication system, bearings;
- at a speed of over 90 km / h, the car drives and, in principle, it is scary to drive further at such a speed;
- many minor flaws, ill-conceived stove, sliding windows.
In a word, the car is big, powerful. But still, the Russian assembly is felt, the designers still have something to work on. If you choose between UAZ Hunter and other budget SUVs, we would choose other cars of the same class - Chevrolet Niva, VAZ-2121, Renault Duster, UAZ-Patriot.
