A study by the Technical University Darmstadt found that car headlights were 60 percent dirty. after just half an hour driving in such conditions of surface pollution.

The layer of dirt on the glass of the lamps absorbs so much light that the range of their visibility is reduced to 35 m. This means that in dangerous situations the driver has a much shorter distance, for example, to stop the car. In addition, dirt particles scatter headlights uncontrollably, dazzling oncoming traffic and further increasing the risk of an accident.

The easiest way to keep your headlights clean is to use the headlight cleaning system, a device that is now found on almost all recent car models. When buying a car, everyone should order this protection in the factory. There are lamp cleaning systems even mandatory on vehicles equipped with xenon headlights to prevent dirt particles from splitting the light.

The headlight cleaning system is usually connected to the windshield washers, so the driver cannot forget to clean the headlights.

Drivers whose vehicles do not have such a system should stop and clean the lamps by hand at regular intervals. It is also important to clean the rear lights from time to time so that dirt does not interfere with their signaling and warning functions. But be careful: rough sponges and rags can damage the surface of the rear light units.
