A stolen car can be found in minutes

A stolen car can be found in minutes Less than a quarter of an hour is sometimes enough for a car equipped with a monitoring system to be tracked after the theft. It is the most efficient tool used to search for vehicles.

A few days ago there was a lot of talk about a man who realized six months later that his historic 1958 Mercedes had been stolen by a thief. It happened when, while searching for car restoration parts, he stumbled upon an online auction that was selling his own car! As it turned out, the car was stolen by a man who was looking for scrap metal at the site where the oldtimer was located - the car was taken away with the help of a tow truck.

These kind of unpleasant surprises can be avoided if the vehicle is equipped with a monitoring system: GPS/GSM, radio or a combination of both solutions. – Vehicles equipped with advanced radio control systems account for 98 percent. cases recover within 24 hours. The effectiveness of this solution was confirmed in conversations with us even by police officers from the departments for combating automobile crime, says Miroslav Maryanovski from Gannet Guard Systems.

The search for a stolen car is always carried out according to the same procedure. The owner reports the loss of the car to the police, and immediately informs the company responsible for protecting the car about the loss of property or agrees to cooperate with it based on notifications sent automatically by the modules installed in the vehicle. After receiving the report, the headquarters passes instructions to the search party, which takes steps to find the vehicle. Sometimes you only need to activate the GPS/GSM module in the car. This was the case with the recently tracked Audi Q7. – The Gannet Guard Systems alarm center received information about the theft of an Audi SUV guarded by our company. The car was the victim of thieves in Katowice. We managed to locate it a few minutes after the message. The position of the vehicle was determined by the GPS signal. The coordinates of the place where the thieves parked the loot were handed over to the police, who found the car, according to Miroslav Maryanovsky.

If a radio system is used, the vehicle is tracked by radar. This solution, which is resistant to the jammers commonly used by thieves, sometimes requires the involvement of search parties in vehicles equipped with radio tracking devices. Sometimes an aircraft is used to locate the vehicle. Such procedures were implemented upon receipt of a statement about the theft of a JCB 3CX backhoe loader. Information about a possible theft was received by the crew of Gannet Guard Systems in the morning. After 45 minutes from the moment of the message, the technicians tracked the vehicle (set the coordinates), and after another three-quarters of an hour, they accurately indicated in which area and where the backhoe loader was standing. In total, the search and recovery took only 1,5 hours. Construction equipment was stolen in Sokhachev. "Lost" was located in one of the towns of the Mazovian Voivodeship. After establishing the place where the stolen car was located, the police entered the territory and began activities aimed at identifying the perpetrators of the crime.

– Tracking times for stolen vehicles vary depending on the technology used to find them. In the case of radio systems, which are much harder for thieves to detect and almost impossible to break, the actions usually last a little longer, but sometimes do not last even an hour, says Dariusz Kvaksh, IT manager for Gannet Guard Systems.

The problem of time difference when searching for stolen vehicles using GPS / GSM and radio systems is due to the peculiarities of tracking technologies. Modules using satellite location transmit a continuous signal, which makes them easier to detect and equip with jammers for thieves. The radio systems are only awakened when a theft is reported, so thieves who have chosen a target cannot determine if there is such a module in the car. In addition, they allow you to track a vehicle hidden in underground garages or steel containers.
