Care and maintenance of brushes with file cards
Cleaning | |
Be sure to clean the bristles after using the brush. To do this, tap the bristles on a flat, hard surface. This will remove any dust or debris left inside the bristles.
Another cleaning method involves using a wire brush or other filing brush to remove any stubborn material residue. Rub the bristles of both brushes back and forth against each other to remove sawdust and other dirt.
Storage | |
After each use, store the brush with the file card in a safe place to avoid damaging it.
Beech wood is known to shrink when exposed to moisture. Make sure you work in a dry area and also store your brush in a dry place. If the file card brush is not stored properly, the beech wood can become deformed and lose its shape, causing the wood to crack and weaken the file cabinet body.
Damage and cost | |
Parts of the card brush cannot be replaced, so if the tool is damaged, it must be replaced with a new one. Card brushes can be purchased for between £2 and £7. |
