Diego Armando Maradona died: the funny story of a black Ferrari for half a million dollars

Maradona insisted that he have a black Ferrari without an audio system and air conditioning.

The death of Maradona, one of the most emblematic soccer players of all time, not only left sadness in the hearts of all his followers, but also many anecdotes that the star experienced throughout his life and his great passions, such as the .

It is precisely on this topic that we find a curious story about one of the many cars in which Diego Armando moved, it is a Ferrari Testarossa that he acquired after leaving the world champion with the Argentina shirt in Mexico 1986.

The story began when Maradona contacted his representative at the time, Guillermo Coppola, to ask him to buy a Ferrari Testarossa, but not just any but one completely in black, but there was a problem because at that time all those vehicles were leaving the Ferrari factory with the characteristic Blood Red color that identifies the Italian firm.

It was a gift from Corrado Ferlaino, president of Napoli to pamper the star player of the moment, who was at the peak of his career, the sum paid was nothing more and nothing less than $430,000 dollars.

So far so good, but there was a problem with the car and Cappola shared in an interview with TyC Sports what he experienced with Maradona.

“The car cost $430,000. I doubled the cost and added thousands of dollars worth of paint. In the end Ferlaino agreed because I promised him that he would get his money back with a friend. We both went upstairs and Diego started looking everywhere. I tell him: “What’s going on?”, “What about the stereo?” - asks Diego. "I say" like stereo? It doesn't have a stereo, it's a race car, it doesn't have a stereo, it doesn't have air conditioning, it doesn't have anything. And he says to me, “Well, let them shove it up my ass... Ferlaino couldn’t believe it,” Coppola said.

The lack of music equipment and air conditioning was overlooked by Maradona and he kept the Testarossa in black, a model that had only been made for actor Sylvester Stallone and later by Michael Jackson, which unlike del Maradona became a convertible.

This 1987 Testarossa, upholstered in white leather, belonged to a Spanish collector and was sold in 2014 for 250 euros.
