Continental wants to introduce a tire pressure monitoring system that will send reports to smartphones.

The system will also provide the driver with information about the current pressure. This will improve driving safety and improve fuel efficiency.

“This fast and uncomplicated system not only makes the vehicle more user-friendly, but also improves vehicle safety and efficiency,” said Burkhard Wies, director of passenger car tire development at Continental. – The driver is also warned of a gradual loss of tire pressure, for example due to a hammered nail or valve failure. It also provides environmental benefits, as proper tire pressure helps maintain proper rolling resistance and thus reduces fuel consumption.

Within two years, the company intends to mass-produce tires equipped with sensors that collect data directly in the tire, under the tread, instead of sensors connected to the valve. Perhaps this will be the beginning of the era of smart tires.
