Moisturizers - TOP 5 moisturizing hair conditioners

The use of moisturizers is the basis of conscious hair care. Find out what moisturizers are, how to dose them according to PEH balance, and how to choose the right conditioner for your hair's porosity.

Hair has different needs - they are determined not only by porosity, but also by daily care, air humidity, temperature and weather conditions. Thus, the demand for humectants, like other active ingredients, can change dynamically. It is worth monitoring your strands - there are several characteristic symptoms that indicate an excess or deficiency of these ingredients. But before we get to them, let's think about what moisturizers are and why our hair needs them.

Like skin, hair needs moisture. Humectants are moisturizing substances with a small molecular structure that penetrate the hair structure. Avoiding moisturizers completely won't end well, even with finely pored hair that retains water well. For this reason, almost every hair cosmetic contains some amount of moisturizers, although, of course, the concentration of these substances is not always dominant.

Moisturizers guarantee hydration, making hair supple, shiny, healthy and easy to comb, while gaining healthy volume. They exhibit hygroscopic properties, due to which they bind water.

There are many moisturizers that can be used in hair care products. However, there are substances that are used more than others because of their excellent moisturizing properties. These include, among others:

  • glycerol,
  • urea,
  • honey,
  • aloe extract,
  • panthenol,
  • lecithin,
  • fructose,
  • sorbitol,
  • hyaluronic acid.

As you can see, most of these ingredients are also found in facial cosmetics. The strongest substances mentioned above are honey, glycerin, urea and hyaluronic acid. This is something to look for in formulations if your hair is heavily damaged by coloring and styling, or simply loses water easily due to high porosity.

As already mentioned, the demand for moisturizers depends on the individual characteristics of the hair, as well as styling habits and environmental conditions. High porosity hair needs most of these ingredients as it easily loses moisture due to raised cuticles. In their case, it is important not only to intensively moisturize, but also to close the care with softening conditioners.

More is not always better. Too fast penetration of small particles of water into the hair leads to tangling and dullness - this can be observed even with a sharp increase in air humidity. Your hair can thus react to excess moisturizers while remaining dry despite receiving a solid dose of moisture.

Lack of moisturizers gives similar symptoms - hair is dry, brittle, hay-like, dull, difficult to comb. In addition, they are rough to the touch.
