Visiting Prince Dracula - Part 1

It's time to move on to the most beautiful thing about motorcycles - the ability to travel without traffic, stress and time trials. We invite you to visit Romania along the path that we have specially laid out for our readers.

Long trips, when you sit in the saddle for hours, are some of the most enjoyable moments in the life of any motorcyclist. When the next hundreds of kilometers appear on the counter, the rider gets to know the car and wants to spend more and more time on it every day. He feels the surrounding space, weather and smells directly, he does not need to go anywhere to start his vacation, because relaxation begins the moment he leaves the garage. Traveling on a motorcycle adapted for tourism is also much less physically tiring than traveling in even the most comfortable car. In turns, we change the position of the body, with each maneuver the shoulders, hips, spine and neck muscles work. If necessary, you can get on a motorcycle and drive in this position for another 10-20 km.

An essential item for the traveler

Romania is an excellent introduction to further tourism. A nearby country, culturally similar to Poland, clean, comfortable and open to tourists. Transylvania, Carpathian forests, impregnable mountains where the bloody Dracula really lived, and cemeteries where instead of dull epitaphs we will see satirical bas-reliefs and funny poems - this is Romania. Following the route outlined by MT, an unforgettable adventure awaits you next summer.

What to go?

Any motorcycle of any capacity, although we definitely recommend traveling in a touring model or other model with an upright seating position. We do not recommend sports models and choppers - you will get tired of them the fastest. On the tourist one you start to get tired after you drive 600 km, and on the sports one after 200. If you do not have a motorcycle license, then you can even get to Romania by a 125-cc car. Let's just assume you need a few more days and it's not about speed. It’s just worth taking longer breaks every 3 km so as not to “tire out” the engine. However, they compensate for the high cost of additional housing. fuel costs are cut in half, because you will burn up to 3 l / 100 km. If you're aiming for a used 125, the Honda Varadero 125 would be the perfect option.

When riding a small motorcycle, avoid motorways and expressways.

How to prepare a motorcycle

Get a professional inspection. Change oil, check fluids, brakes, tire condition. Contact your auto insurance agency. Some assistance with transportation to a workshop a few hundred kilometers away or on-site repairs. It is true that if you prepare your motorcycle well, there is a small risk of breakage, but insurance in your pocket provides incredible psychological comfort.

How to prepare yourself

Take care of the luggage transportation system, which must include: a map, one set of linen for a shift (wash in the evening, put on fresh), pants and a raincoat, shower slippers, diarrhea medicine. . To do this, a bottle of water 0,5 l and a bar of chocolate. You can take some tools or a tire repair kit, but if you buy help you won't have to worry about that. In general, you should fit in one trunk and a bag that you can disassemble and take with you, or lock it up and leave it safely in the parking lot when you go on a tour or dine at a restaurant.

You will cross the borders of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania with an ID card. In each of these countries, you will pay in EUR or local currency. When paying in euros, remember that no one will accept coins from you, only banknotes are honored, and the rest is issued in local currency. Currency exchange points are located near the border crossings.

Very important: purchase a package from any insurance agency in case you need to cover the cost of medical treatment abroad – you pay about PLN 10 for one day of travel.

Accommodation and language

“Where are you staying?” is the first question asked by people who are horrified at the mere thought of a few days of riding a motorcycle abroad. Well, there's never the slightest problem with that. Don't plan on overnight stays! Otherwise, you will be rushed to a certain place, which will spoil your joy from leaving. In none of the nearly twenty European countries and one African country that I visited on a motorcycle, I had no problems with accommodation. There are holiday homes, hotels, motels and guest houses everywhere. Suffice it to assume that every day, for example, from 17 p.m. XNUMX you start looking for accommodation.

Languages: If you know English, you will communicate anywhere in the world that is attractive to tourists. If you don't know, learn a few words: "sleep", "gasoline", "eat", "how much", "good morning", "thank you". Enough. If you meet a person who does not speak a word of English, just poke your finger in the fuel tank or stomach and everything will be clear and understandable. the word "hotel" sounds the same everywhere. You can also count on the help of Polish motorcyclists. Almost every motorcyclist you meet in Romania will be Polish! Indeed, there is nothing to fear. So instead of dreaming, start planning and hit the road in a few months. Just start with Romania.
