In what situations the driver has the right to drive on a red traffic light

The rules of the road are a rigid set of regulations and restrictions that must be observed by all road users in order to avoid dangerous or emergency situations. However, there are exceptions to every rule. In some situations, the driver has every right to ignore the prohibitory light of a traffic light.

In what situations the driver has the right to drive on a red traffic light

If the driver is driving an emergency vehicle

The driver has the right to run a red light if he is driving an emergency vehicle. The purpose of such services is, for example, emergency care or fire fighting. This also applies to other emergency services, but in any case, the car must have sound and light alarms turned on.

If there is a traffic controller at the intersection

According to the established rules (paragraph 6.15 of the SDA), the gestures of the traffic controller have priority over the traffic light. Thus, if an inspector with a baton is standing at the intersection, then all participants in the movement must obey his commands, and ignore the traffic lights.

Finishing move

It happens that the car drove into the intersection at the time of the red traffic light, and then is on it with a prohibitory or warning (yellow) light. In such a situation, you must complete the movement in the direction of the original route, ignoring the red signal. Of course, the car must give way to pedestrians if they started crossing the intersection.

Emergency situation

In particularly urgent cases, the car may pass under a red light if it is justified by an emergency. For example, there is a person inside the car who needs to be taken to the hospital as soon as possible in order to avoid a threat to his life. The offense will be recorded, but the inspectors will investigate using part 3 of paragraph 1 of article 24.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

Emergency braking

The traffic rules (clauses 6.13, 6.14) indicate the actions of the driver with a prohibitory traffic light, as well as a yellow light or a raised hand of the traffic controller. If in such situations the car can only be stopped by emergency braking, then the car owner has the right to continue driving. This is because emergency braking can cause the vehicle to skid or be struck by a vehicle moving behind.

In some situations, it is quite possible to pass on the "red". First of all, this applies to emergency services and emergency cases. But such examples are rather an exception to the rules that should be the law for a driver. After all, the life and health of people depend on compliance with traffic rules.
