VéliTUL: self-service electric bike to launch soon in Laval

Lavallois Urban Transport (Tul) is preparing to renew its self-service bike fleet. Electric, the first fifty units are expected by the start of the school year for initial use as the battery will be offered for rent in addition to service.

Electric or classic, Laval will leave the choice to users thanks to an original concept based on a rented battery system. Thus, users interested in an electric VeliTUL will have to "rent" a battery or be content with the classic model without assistance. This removable battery will provide an autonomy of 6 to 8 kilometers and will be the "property" of the user, who will have to pay 50 euros more per year and an additional deposit of 150 euros.

For the service operator, this allows not to influence the price in comparison with the current service. Thus, the first half hour will remain free. The same applies to subscription rates: one euro for 24 hours, 5 euro for seven days and 30 euro for one year.

100 bicycles by 2019

The first fifty VéliTUL e-bikes will enter service in September. In 50 they will be joined by another 2019 units, which will replace the entire current VeliTUL fleet.
