In the car, like in the oven. Almost +60 degrees Celsius

In the car, like in the oven. Almost +60 degrees Celsius How hot can a car interior be in direct sunlight? Studies by the German Automobile Club ADAC show that +50 degrees Celsius appears on the thermometer after half an hour. And this is not the end...

“Leaving a child in a closed car is a direct risk of losing health and even life,” says Marek Michalak, Ombudsman for Children. He emphasizes that, especially on hot days, this is extremely irresponsible, while reminding that you need to react when you see children sitting in a car, and it is even allowed to break the glass of a vehicle. According to Art. 26 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "does not commit a crime who acts to eliminate an immediate danger that threatens any good protected by law, if the danger cannot be avoided in another way, and the consecrated good is of less value than the saved good."

At the same time, the Ombudsman for Children calls for common sense in exercising the right of greater necessity. “Breaking a window in a car parked at a gas station can be reckless. At the checkout, the guardian of the child must be locked somewhere in the car. We should also easily find the owner of the car standing in front of the drugstore or local shop. In a situation where it is difficult to find a driver, such as in front of a shopping center, do not be afraid to break the glass. At the same time, we must remember about our own safety and the safety of a child locked in a car,” says Marek Michalak.

And the fact that the matter is serious is proved by a study conducted, for example, by the German automobile club ADAC. The experts used three identical Volkswagen Golfs (black) that were placed side by side in an outdoor temperature of around 28 degrees Celsius in the sun. Each has a temperature sensor at the level of the front passenger's head. In one of the cars, all the windows were closed, in the second they were open by about 5 cm, and in the third, by two (about 5 cm each). Result? In each case, the temperature inside rose to about +30 degrees after 50 minutes. In the sealed case, after an hour it was +57 degrees, and after 90 minutes, almost +60 degrees.

Not all drivers are aware of this. An example of this is excerpts from police reports for this year:

“Police officers from Wloclawek explain why guardians left a child in a locked car on a hot day. A 9-year-old boy who was alone in the car became interested in a passer-by. The man broke the window of the car and reported the incident to the service.

“Irresponsible mother left her two young daughters in a hot car in the parking lot and went shopping. Alarmed by the children's crying, people called the emergency number 112. Firefighters broke the glass in the car. The police in Zielona Góra are investigating that children are at risk of death or health.”

“In Raclavka, the police helped to get the child out of the locked car. The child's mother accidentally slammed the door, leaving the keys in the car. Her multi-month-old baby was also inside, and the car was parked in a very sunny spot.”
