In Russia, motor oils have sharply and significantly risen in price

Since the beginning of this year, lubricants have risen in price by 40-50% at once. And, as the AvtoVzglyad portal managed to find out, the cost of oils and lubricants necessary for regular car maintenance continues to grow.

According to experts, at the end of July, the average price of one liter of motor oil in the Russian market is from 400 to 500 rubles. For comparison: in January, sellers gave grease 250 - 300 rubles per liter.

“The reason is the resulting shortage of base oils, which are used by all lubricant manufacturers. Due to the pandemic, lockdowns, disruptions in logistics and production chains in the world, the production of raw materials for motor oils was reduced, but now demand is recovering sharply, and the petrochemical industry is not keeping up with it,” Vladislav Solovyov, president of the marketplace for sale of auto parts Autodoc.ru.

When prices stabilize, it is difficult to say - most likely, the deficit will continue until the end of this year. And this plays into the hands of counterfeit manufacturers who are ready to sell their “products” literally for a penny: in some regions of the country, the share of counterfeit products can reach 20% - that is, every fifth engine runs on low-quality “liquid”.

In general, lubricate, protect, clean, cool ... - motor oil has many properties. To summarize them all, the conclusion will be this: lubrication in the engine prolongs its life. Of course, there are many myths about motor oils. All of them are born in garages and on the Internet. But many of them are nothing more than horror stories, and only disorientate inexperienced motorists. The AvtoVzglyad portal has collected the most famous stories about the most important lubricant in your car.
