Investigation launched in Turkey against Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and BMW

Turkey's Competition Authority has launched an official investigation into 5 car companies - Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and BMW - on suspicion that they agreed to introduce different technologies into new cars at the same time, Reuters reported.
A preliminary study by the Committee showed that German automobile giants agreed on a price cap for cars, the use of particulate filters and the introduction of SCR and AdBlue technologies. It was found that companies could violate the Competition Act.

The documents received so far from the Committee show that the five manufacturers have agreed among themselves to postpone the supply of new software to the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, which processes the exhaust gases of diesel engines. They also agreed on the size of the AdBlue tank (diesel engine exhaust fluid).

The investigation will also affect the use of other systems and technologies on cars of five brands. These include determining the maximum limit at which the speed control system will work, as well as the time during which the sunroofs of the vehicle can open or close.

The information gathered so far shows that with this practice, German manufacturers violated the Law on Protection of Competition in Turkey, but the charges have not been officially proved. If this happens, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and BMW will incur corresponding fines.
