VanMoof V: an electric bike looking to replace a car

VanMoof V is the Dutch brand's first high-speed electric bike. Scheduled for late 2022, it's available for pre-booking now for the VanMoof cycling community. A two-wheeler that will finally replace the car in cities? We want to believe it.

A bike that rolls quickly and smoothly

The Carlier brothers, founders of VanMoof, set themselves the challenge in 2009 to create the perfect city bike. Twelve years later, their stores are represented in 20 cities around the world. Their new challenge is called the V and will be released late next year: an electric high-speed bike capable of smoothly and smoothly reaching speeds of up to 50 km / h. Its two-wheel drive, front and rear suspension and automatic gearshift function make it a long-awaited alternative to the car for townspeople.

"This is our very first high-speed speed bike and we believe will radically change the way we live and travel in cities." Thies Carlier says. “I predict that this new type of high-speed e-bike will be able to completely replace scooters and cars in the city by 2025.” Ambitions that go beyond building a fast motorcycle continue into political action.

What if we go cycling first?

VanMoof V is built for the future, fast, affordable and easy to use. One in which priority will be given to bicycles in cities.

“To really destroy the mentality of the car, first of all (car first), cities must modernize their policies to open up to a more sustainable future. Our jurisdiction should be for people, not cars. Opening our roads to greener modes of travel depends more on a change in mentality among political decision makers than on a question of money. “

A call from the two co-founders to legislators and the administration to update the rules on the electric bike.

An electric high-speed bike that adapts to the law ... Not the opposite yet

Expected at a starting price of € 3, the upcoming speed bike from VanMoof combines a 498Wh battery and two motors, one in the rear and one in the front, which will be tuned according to national regulations. If the brand does not homologate it in the category of mopeds, in France the speed should not exceed 700 km / h.

Thanks to a durable aluminum frame and thick tires, rides will be comfortable and smooth, even at high speeds. The associated VanMoof features will of course be present: Turbo Boost for instant acceleration, KickLock start-up and built-in anti-theft protection.

Still under development, the future race car is currently available for booking by invitation only for € 20. We still have over a year to test the VanMoof V on the road, but we can't wait.
