- It's annoying how many cyclists pass through pedestrian crossings, although, apparently, the rules require that they carry a bicycle. Is it legal for a cyclist to ride against the current on a one-way street?

– Cyclists are required to follow the rules of the road, just like other cyclists. By driving against the current at a traffic light or crossing a pedestrian crossing, they commit offenses for which they can be fined.

The Code details the rights and obligations of this group of leaders. Let me remind you of a few of the most important responsibilities. Bicycle rider:

  • is obliged to use a cycle path or a bicycle and pedestrian path - when using the latter, he must be especially careful and give way to pedestrians;
  • in the absence of a path for bicycles or a path for bicycles and pedestrians, he is obliged to use the shoulder. If the side of the road is not suitable for traffic or the movement of a vehicle obstructs the movement of pedestrians, the cyclist has the right to use the road.
  • As an exception, the use of a footpath or footpath is permitted when:

  • a cyclist takes care of a person under the age of 10 who rides a bicycle,
  • the width of the sidewalk along the road, where the movement of vehicles at a speed of more than 60 km/h is allowed, is at least 2 meters and there is no dedicated bike path.
  • When riding on a sidewalk or footpath, a cyclist must move slowly, exercise extra care and give way to pedestrians.
