Fogging windows, which limits visibility and makes driving difficult, is a problem that occurs especially in autumn and winter. The way to solve it is an efficient ventilation system in the car.

In the most convenient position are the owners of vehicles equipped with air conditioning. Setting the right temperature takes a moment, and the system ensures that the ride is pleasant and safe. Unfortunately, in older and cheaper models of cars, getting rid of the problem of fogging the windows is not so easy. It is important that the blower works well.

“The operating principle of the airflow and heating system is simple,” explains Krzysztof Kossakowski from the Gdańsk Road and Traffic Expert Office REKMAR. – Air is usually sucked in from the windshield area and then blown through the ventilation ducts into the vehicle interior. Behind the supercharger is the so-called heater, which is responsible for the temperature of the air entering the passenger compartment.

Take out a couple

“Steam can be removed from the windows by blowing air out of the blower, while gradually turning on the heating (as the engine warms up),” explains Krzysztof Kossakowski. - It is also good, especially before a long trip, to leave wet outerwear in the trunk - this will significantly reduce the amount of water vapor deposited on the cooled windows.

The second reason we turn on warm air is to get the right temperature inside the car. Depending on the vehicle and the efficiency of the system, optimal conditions can be obtained in a relatively short time. Remember, however, that just as too low a temperature in a car is not conducive to driving, too much heat in the interior can be fatal.

Be moderate

– As in everything, when using a blower, you need to follow the measure, says Krzysztof Kossakowski. – People traveling by car, and especially the driver, should enjoy the best possible conditions inside the car. Too high a temperature reduces the psychomotor performance of a person. Therefore, it is necessary to skillfully "manage" the temperature in the cabin. The most recommended method seems to be when the air supply works constantly, but at the lowest level. It is also good to direct hot air "to the feet" - it will rise, gradually warming up the interior of the entire vehicle.

The ventilation system rarely fails. The most emergency element is the fan and the air flow switch. In some cars (old type) these elements can be replaced by yourself. In new cars, these elements, as a rule, are firmly assembled - it is better to entrust the repair to the workshop.

Vacuum the system

Marek Step-Rekowski, assessor

– Elements of the ventilation system do not require special maintenance, except for performance monitoring. Since the air is blown into the passenger compartment by the blower in significant quantities, small impurities accumulate on the air intake elements - pollen, dust, etc. It is good to “vacuum” the entire system from time to time, turning the blower to the maximum setting and fully opening all ventilation openings. Pollen filters installed on the air intake should be changed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
