Fans and fans for the home - what to choose? We compare

High temperatures can take their toll, especially when you spend several hours in the same room without air conditioning, such as an office or living room. To help yourself in the heat, you should get a fan. What model to choose for the house?

How does a typical home fan work?

Classic fans operate on the basis of the movement of propellers placed in a special protective case. The blades, mostly electrically driven, force the heated air to move quickly, creating a cool wind. However, this is an effect that lasts as long as the device is in operation and does not actually lower the room temperature. In addition, the cold wind allows sweat to evaporate from the surface of the skin faster, which enhances the feeling of cooling.

Equipment of this type, whether it is a small table fan or a large and designer columned version, is a non-invasive alternative to wall-mounted air conditioners, the correct operation of which requires professional installation, including drilling a hole in the wall or completely replacing the window. They can also be moved. There are also small models, powered by USB or batteries, for example, which can also be taken outside, where they will come in handy in sunny warm weather.

Floor fan - overview of available options

As the name suggests, these devices are placed on the floor, next to a power source, regardless of the proximity of a window. These are the typical, popular room fans most often chosen by users.

The classic model of a stationary fan consists of an adjustable rack, a fan with 3-5 impellers and a grid that protects against accidental contact with a “dish” operating at high speed. It usually has an adjustable turn function to increase the range of a cold gust of wind - the so-called oscillatory movement, and at least a three-stage adjustment of the operating mode and power.

Option for busy or diligent students - table fan

This equipment takes up relatively little space - it is placed on the countertop, and not on the floor nearby. Thanks to this, the flow of cold air is directed directly at the user - then a large fan power is not required due to the proximity of the target. Because of their intended use, they are usually quite small.

The operation remains the same as with the larger model on a tripod (less power difference). The regulation is also very similar and is usually limited to three levels of labor intensity. Some models have the ability to charge via a USB port, which means that you can connect to a laptop or an external battery and take it with you even on the street.

A combination of practicality with an unusual design - which column fan is better?

This type of cooling equipment is a close relative of the classic floor fan with a round "dish" that creates a gust of wind. Just like its predecessor, it differs not in the principle of operation, but only in the number of fans located behind the case.

A great advantage in this type of device is the form - it is thanks to it that this device is suitable for limited spaces or for rooms where an undisturbed interior arrangement is valued. The column windmill looks elegant; some models are designer gems that not only work well, but also look attractive in the apartment.

This group also includes a tower fan, which instead of classic propellers has lamellas rotating around a vertical axis. They allow a cooler breeze to escape over the entire height of the device, which increases its efficiency and ease of use.

Air conditioning - i.e. room fan with cooling

An air conditioner is a device, although similar in name to an air conditioner, but has little in common with it. It is closer to classic fans - because it sucks in air and gives out cold air. This is done with the help of cooling cartridges inside, most often containers with water. Some models allow the user to increase the cooling capacity by adding ice cubes inside.

Air conditioners actively change the temperature in the room (by a maximum of 4 ° C), compared to fans, which are based on artificially generated wind, which gives a cooling effect. The lower temperature created by them remains for some time after the device is turned off.

Most of the available devices of this type have means in the form of air flow regulation, oscillation functions, i.e. movement, which increases the range of exposure, or even the presence of a special filter that additionally purifies the air from impurities and microorganisms. The evaporative air conditioner also doubles as a humidifier fan - by evaporating water from the surface of a special cooling plate, it provides not only a lower temperature, but also proper respiratory hygiene!

Small portable fans - can they handle the heat?

A small windmill is an inconspicuous device that is perfect for people leading an active lifestyle - walking, playing sports, traveling by public transport or, for a change, relaxing on the beach. Does not require a network connection, usually works thanks to the presence of a battery or is charged via a USB port on a laptop or smartphone.

USB fans cannot achieve the same power and efficiency as devices plugged directly into an outlet. However, this option is useful outside the home, such as on a non-air-conditioned bus.

The availability of models and types of fans, fans and other cooling devices is really great. So you can easily find the option that suits you, whether you're looking for support for the office or home, or a convenient solution for long trips. Check out our offer and choose a fan for yourself.
