The ambition is truly unique, but if one sets themselves such lofty goals, it is also necessary to recognize the fact that we are trying to compare such a machine with what seems to be the best in the world. Dieter Zetsche, the great boss of the Mercedes-Benz brand and the first man of its owner Daimler, also presented his vision for the new S-Class: “Our goal was not safety or aesthetics, performance or efficiency, comfort or dynamics. Our demand was that we achieve as much as possible in each of these areas. In other words, best or nothing! No other Mercedes model expresses the brand like the S-Class.”

So the goal is truly unique, as is the expectation. So what else should be underneath an attractive and convincing enough body shape?

At least a glance at the basic piece of paper that everyone gets when they decide they want a car like this will also tell us what to expect from a sedan like this.

This is where it all starts, namely how much we are willing to afford the "best or nothing" of this Zetche. In its own way, this is a very good guide when choosing and buying a new S-Class.

Are we really going to afford the best engine? We are already in a dilemma. You can get the S-Class with one turbo diesel or one of three petrol engines, the S 400 Hybrid has a V6 combined with an electric motor, the S 500 V8, and those who opt for the V12 will have to wait. a little longer, but until then he can tackle the additional engine offerings of the official Mercedes AMG "tuner".

We neglect the incredibly large selection of gloss colors, seat covers or interiors (you can only choose one of four for wood veneer). Take, for example, the night vision gadget or the Assistant Plus package, which allows you to set a constant speed and adjust the safe distance in front of the car in front of you (Distronic Plus) using the automatic steering mechanism. ., which corrects the direction of travel, and includes the automatic braking mechanism for the protection of pedestrians PreSafe and the add-on BasPlus, which detects transverse vehicles. You can also opt for Magic Body Control (but only for VXNUMX versions), where a special system added to the air suspension monitors (scans) the road in front of the vehicle and adjusts the suspension accordingly. promote.

Reality is, of course, related to cost. With our briefly tested S 350, several add-ons have already raised the base price from € 92.900 to € 120.477. However, we did not find all of the above in the tested machine.

Yes, the S-Class could indeed be what the Zetche boss demands - the best car in the world.
