SUV ZIL-157 2022-2023 with a frame and 4WD
Having redeemed the rights to the Moscow Automobile Plant in the spring, the city government has not yet resolved the issue of loading the enterprise. Now not a single car is assembled here due to a lack of necessary parts, engines and other structural elements. Recently it became known that JAC can supply components and even car kits. However, at the moment, no significant changes are expected in this direction. Thus, it is possible that the Moscow automaker, as previously predicted, will produce cars only for the capital's car sharing and taxi services. KAMAZ will help in the production of such models.
But the demand for these cars will be much lower than the company's production capacity. In other words, the Moscow plant needs more models. But the brand "Moskvich", under which the Moscow plant will produce cars, is intended for relatively inexpensive cars. Therefore, the demand for expensive models in Russia will remain unsatisfied due to the fact that many manufacturers leave the country, and the products of others will become very expensive. Under such conditions, the metropolitan government can start the production of cars to cover the needs described. And such a car can become a three-row SUV that can replace the Kia Mohave or even the Haval H9 in Russia.
A local designer who created several renderings showed what such a car might look like. But, according to him, the new three-row SUV will not be produced under the Moskvich brand, but as a ZIL. The choice in favor of this brand is explained by the above-mentioned reason. "Moskvich" is associated with many budget cars. Therefore, if they are making a big and expensive SUV, the developers should look to another brand. And as in the case of Moskvich, the city authorities can resurrect another brand of cars that used to be assembled in Moscow.
Release of the ZIL-157 SUV 2022-2023 at the landfill corresponds to the plans of the company. The aforementioned JAC, whose lineup includes classic pickup trucks based on a frame chassis, could help create such a car. Chinese development can become the basis for the future ZIL SUV.
Design
Stylistically, the presented ZIL SUV is similar to the aforementioned Kia Mohave. But this can be explained by the fact that the Russian novelty has a classic design. Like many modern SUVs, the presented ZIL has a body with regular shapes: only the rear part is slightly raised up. Toyota Land Cruiser, Great Wall Tank 800 and many other similar models are made in a similar style. This configuration gives the car a more massive look and increases the size of the interior space.
The new SUV ZIL-157 2022-2023 is distinguished by one remarkable feature: strongly inclined A-pillars smoothly flow into the roof, which slowly descends towards the stern. This solution, combined with a developed spoiler at the rear, gives the SUV a more lively look. The Russian novelty also received a relief hood with a noticeably protruding central part. At the front is a rectangular grille with vertical slats and two wide edging lines. On the sides of it are three LED headlights of the same shape.
The front bumper has a massive front end. Its central part is a large air intake, inside which vertical and horizontal slats intersect. Additional ventilation holes are also located on the sides in a small recess. This combination, together with additional plastic cladding, visually enlarges the new ZIL.
This effect is enhanced by the sidewalls with their wide curves, inside which are large wheels. Their diameter will most likely be 21-22 inches. Despite the above statement, when developing the new ZIL, the designer probably focused on the Kia Mohave, and not on other SUVs. This is indicated by the original taillights, which are slightly curved at the top. Also similar to the Mohave is that the aft glazing is set at a slight angle, rather than vertically, as on many SUVs.
The interior design of the presented 157-2022 ZIL-2023 SUV has not yet been revealed, but the Russian novelty is expected to receive equipment equivalent to premium SUVs.
Technical specifications
As noted earlier, the platform from the JAC pickup truck should form the basis of the new ZIL SUV. Most likely, it will be the T8 model, which appeared on the Chinese market a few years ago. The pickup platform allows the production of large SUVs with a three-row cab.
At the same time, the basis of the Russian model will be a ladder-type frame, 43% of which is made of high-strength steel. The front of the ZIL will have a double wishbone suspension, and the rear suspension is a continuous axle with leaf springs.
The 157-2022 ZIL-2023 SUV will be equipped by default with a 2-liter turbodiesel developing 139 hp. and 320 N * m. In more expensive versions, you can expect a 2-liter turbocharged engine. It develops power up to 190 hp. and maximum torque of 290 Nm. The top versions will be equipped with a 2,4-liter Mitsubishi engine, which develops power up to 211 hp. and 320 N * m. Each engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and optional all-wheel drive, complemented by a 2-speed transfer case and reduction gear.
