A real SUV, in the premium line of the Mercedes-Benz brand, is actually only the legendary Gelendvagen (and its “derivatives”) ... .. Other models with “high cross-country ability” are really impressive in their capabilities, but they cannot boast of those “attributes” which are so necessary for real drivers of "all-terrain vehicles" (a powerful subframe and permanent axles "in the wheel").

The history of Mercedes off-road models dates back to 1928 - then a family of cars called the G3a with a 6 × 4 wheel arrangement was born ... .. However, the German brand's full off-road debut took place only in 1979 - then the legendary G-Class was born, which became popular in civilian and military areas.

The company was founded in 1926 as a result of the merger of two car manufacturers - Benz & Cie. and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft. German engineers and inventors Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler are considered the founding fathers of the brand. The "firstborn" in the Mercedes-Benz line is the Type 630, which appeared in 1924 and was called the Mercedes 24/100/140 PS before the merger of the two companies. From 1926 to the present day, this German automaker has produced more than 30 million vehicles. In 1936, Mercedes-Benz mass-produced the world's first diesel passenger car called the 260 D. The brand's production facilities are located all over the planet - in Austria, Germany, Egypt, China, the USA, Russia, Malaysia, Vietnam and many other countries. The company became the first foreign automaker to open an office in Russia - this happened in Moscow in 1974. Mercedes-Benz is ranked 3rd by market value among car brands (after Toyota and BMW) and 11th among all global brands in general. The brand logo with a "three-pointed star" appeared in 1916 and acquired its current form only in 1990. The advertising slogan of the company is “The Best or Nothing”, which means “The Best or Nothing” in Russian.

Third" Mercedes-Benz G-Class

The premium mid-size SUV with its factory code "W464" debuted in mid-January 2018 (at the Detroit Auto Show). It boasts: 100% recognizable appearance, luxurious interior, powerful technical "stuffing" and unsurpassed off-road potential.

The six-wheeled version of the Gelendvagen appeared in 2013 and was produced in a small series (AMG division). Features of this pickup truck include a three-axle layout, impressive off-road capabilities and a luxurious four-seat interior.

The car was presented in 2012 at the New York Auto Show.

First generation Mercedes-Benz GL

The debut of the first generation of the premium SUV (factory index "X164") took place at the 2006 North American International Auto Show. He did not appear at all "to replace the G-class." This is a large, comfortable and luxurious car for "big" people. The car was slightly updated in 2009 and replaced by a next generation model in 2012.
