When driving a car, remember to wear the right shoes.

When driving a car, remember to wear the right shoes. Summer is the time when a significant proportion of people decide to wear flip-flops. Despite the fact that surveys of drivers have shown that flip flops are the most difficult for them to drive, at the same time, 25% of respondents admit that they regularly drive in them. Among the shoes that are not suitable for driving, you can also name high-heeled shoes, long-toed shoes and wedges.

When driving a car, remember to wear the right shoes. Proper footwear helps you respond quickly when braking, shifting, and accelerating. Features like outsole traction and comfort can prove invaluable in the event of a sudden braking emergency. Although the momentary slip of the foot from the brake pedal may seem harmless, it is worth remembering that, moving at a speed of 90 km/h, we cover 25 m in one second, says Zbigniew Veseli, director of the Renault driving school.

Good shoes should, above all, have the right sole. It cannot be too thick and hard, it must allow you to feel the force with which you need to press the pedal. It should also have good traction so that the foot does not slip off the pedals. Be sure to avoid very wide shoes, which can lead to the fact that we press two adjacent pedals at the same time. An important point that should also be taken into account, especially in summer, is the closure of shoes in the ankle area. Shoes should fit snugly on the foot, there should be no risk of slipping out of it. This is one of the reasons why flip flops and ankle boots are out of place. The best shoes are, of course, sports shoes with flat soles with good grip, explain the Renault driving school instructors. Under no circumstances should you drive with bare feet.

“If we have shoes that are not suitable for driving, we should take a second shift with us, in which we can safely drive a car,” advise Renault driving school instructors.

Particular attention should be paid to shoes in the rain. If the sole is wet, it slides off the pedals more easily. If we combine this with shoes that have poor grip even in dry weather, we are definitely at risk of losing control of the car, Renault driving school instructors warn. To avoid this, the driver must wipe the soles of his shoes.

What shoes to avoid:

Platform/wedge heels - have thick and often heavy soles that make it difficult to move quickly, reduce sensitivity and can lead to foot getting stuck between the pedals,

- Pin - a high and thin heel can get stuck in the mat and interfere with maneuvering,

it also does not provide adequate, stable support,

– Flip flops, flip flops and shoes tied at the ankle - they do not stick to the legs, which can lead to sticking

slip off it, they can also cause painful abrasions,

-Shoes are too tight around the ankle - fetters and slows down movement.

What shoes to choose for driving:

– The sole must be up to 2,5 cm thick, and it cannot be wide,

-Shoes must have good grip, must not slip off the pedals,

-They should stick well to the leg,

-They should not restrict movement or cause discomfort.
