Water in the fuel tank

Water in the fuel tank One of the causes of problems with starting and uneven operation of the engine is the water contained in the fuel.

In late autumn and winter, some cars in good technical condition have problems with starting and uneven engine operation. One of the causes of such symptoms is the water contained in the fuel that feeds the engine. Water in the fuel tank

The water in the atmospheric air is in constant contact with the tank into which we pour gasoline. Air enters there through valves and ventilation lines. Air is sucked into the volume released by the spent fuel, and water vapor penetrates with it, which is deposited on the cold walls of the tank, most often located under the floor of the car behind the rear seat.

The amount of water deposited depends on the material from which the tank is made and the surface of the walls in contact with air. Since the material of the tank was chosen by the designer, care must be taken to keep the fuel level as high as possible. Do not leave the fuel tank nearly empty for long periods of time as this will cause water to accumulate in the tank.
