According to Road Show, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Burnaby tweeted about the event last Wednesday, after stopping a Model 3 fully adorned with Christmas lights and acting for which the driver received a ticket.

A traffic officer stopped this Tesla near Kingsway and McMurray last night.

The headlights were glued to the car.

Please don't do this, it could be dangerous if they fall in traffic, not to mention a distraction.

A fine was issued for the violation.

"Please don't do this, it can be dangerous if they get stuck in traffic, no matter what distracts you," the tweet read.

While this incident took place in Canada, this also applies to the US. While there is no general rule against Christmas lights in cars, local jurisdictions often frown on lights that distract other drivers. There are many specific colors that drivers may not display on their vehicle as well., such as red and blue lights that could be mistaken for a police car.

In order to avoid an unexpected fine, spend the Christmas holidays happily at home and stay safe, ideally it's best to keep the Christmas lights on your tree and not in your car, otherwise you can sink into a chaotic Christmas.
