Alfa Romeo drivers more likely to get speeding tickets

Driving any car at high speed can put a cost in your pocket not only for gas mileage, but also for a speeding ticket. The study shows that Alfa Romeo cars are most often affected by these violations.

According to data collected by Insurify, on average 10.5% of US drivers have at least one  on your name. However, this average may increase or decrease depending on the vehicle. Based on an insurance rate comparison site ranking the makes and models most likely to be driven by convicted speedsters, it's fair to say that some stereotypes don't fall out of the blue.

For proof, just take a look at the top five brands ranked by the percentage of drivers caught speeding.

1. Alfa Romeo

2. Subaru

3. Volkswagen

4. Mazerati

5. R.A.M.

Alfa Romeo tops the list by a fairly large margin, approximately 15% of owners report at least one speed violation (which is 41% more fines than the average). The same figure for the other four brands ranges from 12% to 13%. Interestingly, three of the five brands here are owned by Stellantis.

What specific models are most susceptible to this disease?

Perhaps even more interesting, Insurify also researched which specific models in each of the top five offending brands are most likely and least likely to have a steering wheel-attached slider. For example, ram with the most tickets - 1500, while the least "fast" Stellantis station wagon is the 2500. When it comes to the Maserati, it's no surprise that the GranTurismo was the most purchased while the Quattroporte remained relatively law-abiding.

VW, Subaru and Alfa models, which are most often and least often convicted of speeding, are equally predictable. The more performance-oriented GTIs, WRXs and Giulias are at the top of their brands, while the laid-back Beetles, Ascents and Stelvios are at the bottom.

The most offensive Alfa Romeo models

Even though the Australian BRZ collected more than $10,000 in speeding tickets in just 11 minutes, the “fastest” models here are not real sports cars from brands like the Alfa Romeo C or BRZ. Quicker, compact and relatively ordinary family cars that were sporty or sporty are the worst offenders..

Maybe it has to do with things like GTI, W y Julia which attract the same types of drivers as a sports car, while also offering relative anonymity and in turn a false sense of security when it comes to police attention.

Lincoln: the brand with the fewest fines

Of course, all of this data is based solely on the over 4 million drivers who have applied for an insurance policy through Insurify and is not really an exhaustive list based on national data provided by the government. But it's still a decent shot that shouldn't deviate too much from the general reality.

On the other side of the coin, data from the insurance website says that Lincoln is the only brand that has the fewest drivers with speeding tickets (less than 9%). having been convicted of exceeding published limits.
