Volkswagen Caddy Maxi 2.0 TDI (103 kW) Life

Volkswagen Let me be clear: there is no such Caddy as you can see in the photo. But if you want such a beast to reign on your street, you should at least go to America.

There they are known for redesigning different cars and just competing on which one is bigger. Well, if you tell them that you would like to renew the Caddy Maxi, they will look at you closely, but if they are professionals, they will just shrug and say, "Okay, mister."

Volkswagen's strategists obviously realized there was a need in the market for a bigger car like their Caddy, so they sent engineers and technicians to production where they had to take care of more space in the already spacious Caddy. This is how the Caddy Maxi was created, an extended version of a conservatively designed car designed for everyday commuting with the whole family.

However, the Germans are not the first, let alone the only ones, who devote more centimeters to mobile family life. After that, the most famous are the Seat Altea XL and Renault Grand Scenic, and to this group we can add the (smaller) Grand Modus.

Those of you who have always sat in the front row at school and are used to it in your mature years will sit in a familiar environment. The Caddy Maxi at the front is no different from what we're used to.

We can only emphasize the luxury of storage space as it has a drawer in the dashboard, a larger opening in the door, a comfortable space between the front seats and a large storage space in the car's attic (i.e. front passengers). If you are a little distracted in life, you will have quite a lot of problems finding your wallet, phone and ABC (it's good that vignettes will appear soon).

Then we go to the second row. Access is easy thanks to large sliding doors fitted to each side of the vehicle. Also, there will be no problems with head and legroom for passengers in the second row? with my 180 centimeters, I easily shook my head while listening to the popular melody on the radio, and was also able to shake my legs a little during a longer ride.

Passengers safely hidden behind dark windows (accessories for every euro, especially if you have small children at home who usually sleep in the car!) Were given small sliding windows.

Sliding doors left designers little room to maneuver, so the choice of sliding windows is logical, but they are so small that it looks like you are in a dungeon in the second row.

Passengers in the two rear seats have a much better view, as the start of the body is relatively low, but these passengers do not have the ability to open the windows. It's worse here than in the front row, though, isn't it? believe it or not? even an adult had a relatively comfortable short ride.

However, due to the better visibility, the third row will certainly be a favorite for kids who won't have much of a problem accessing the luggage seats. The sixth and seventh seats cannot be folded into the underbody of the vehicle, but they can be removed, which is not an easy task.

In this way, the base trunk can be increased from 530 to an enviable 1.350 liters, and this - you can trust us - is more than enough to move countries during the holidays. The advantage of the large tailgate, which is also difficult to close and open, and the high ceiling is that you can fit a child's bike or stroller into the trunk without removing the tires or folding your child's first car.

In the test, we had a two-liter TDI with 103 kW or 140 "horses". You might find that for such a stable car, a top speed of 186 km / h or acceleration from zero to 11 km / h in 1 second is not that much of a success, but practice shows the downside.

The engine (also sound) is smooth, despite its heavy weight, it perfectly complements the car and generally pampers with torque and relatively low fuel consumption. With normal driving, you will use about nine liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers, which can also be attributed to a good six-speed manual transmission.

Both the engine and gearbox are old acquaintances from the Volkswagen shelves, so they don't deserve more explanation. Suffice it to say that they do a great job in the Caddy Maxi.

If you think the Caddy Maxi is more of a transport mule than a riding horse, then you are wrong. The build quality is excellent and you won't feel like you're driving in a car with that much volume behind the wheel. The Caddy Maxi doesn't lean in corners, but the chassis still swallows holes solidly, the cabin is well soundproofed, and the driving position - Volkswagen - is good. So, the name does not hint at a scam, but an extension of our situation with a large car that already goes in Caravelli and Multivan cabbage.

Overall rating (333/420)

  • With the Caddy Maxi on your home street, you won't reign supreme over the prettiest, but you will surely be among the top occupants. The lack of a bold shape of the cabin does not bother, since the ergonomics of the environment are written on the skin of seven passengers. You will also be impressed by the engine and transmission, but less so by the price and equipment.

  • Exterior (11/15)

Not the most beautiful, but consistent and high quality.

  • Interior (110/140)

Plenty of space, rich offer of drawers, good ergonomics.

  • Engine, transmission (36

    / 40)

A successful combination of a powerful turbodiesel engine and a six-speed transmission.

  • Driving performance (73

    / 95)

Comfortable chassis, slightly more sensitive to crosswinds, long clutch pedal travel.

  • Performance (26/35)

103 kilowatts delivers performance that even athletes will not be ashamed of.

  • Security (40/45)

Good, but not top-notch package. For anything more, you need to browse through the accessories.

  • Economy

It's not the cheapest, but so it boasts moderate thirst and a good price to use.
