Volkswagen Passat CC - sports coupe

With 15 million Passats and Passat Variants built, it's time to expand the range of body styles. In addition, there are many modern technical "goodies", including active seat air conditioning.

Until now, vehicle manufacturers have used the designation CC (French) for convertible coupes, that is, vehicles that combine coupe body style with open-top driving capability. In other words, Volkswagen recently unveiled a new four-door coupe equipped with state-of-the-art driver assistance systems, some of which are unique to high-end vehicles.

When entering the European market, the new Volkswagen will be offered with two direct injection petrol engines (TSI and V6) and one turbodiesel (TDI). Gasoline engines have a power of 160 hp. (118 kW) and 300 hp (220 kW), and turbodiesel - 140 hp. (103 kW) and now complies with the Euro 5 standard, which will come into force in autumn 2009. The Passat CC TDI with the latest engine consumes an average of just 5,8 liters of diesel fuel/100 km and has a top speed of 213 km/h. The Passat CC TSI, which consumes 7,6 liters of petrol and has a top speed of 222 km/h, is one of the most economical petrol vehicles in its class. The most powerful V6 will come standard with next-generation 4Motion permanent all-wheel drive, adaptive suspension, also new, and an extremely efficient dual-clutch DSG transmission. The Passat CC V6 4Motion is electronically limited to 250 km/h and has an average fuel consumption of just 10,1 liters.

For the first time, Volkswagen has introduced a lane warning system and a new DCC adaptive suspension. Another modern technology is the "Park Assist" parking system and "ACC automatic distance control" with the "Front Assist" braking distance system.

A completely new feature is the newly designed electric panoramic sunroof. Its transparent cover is 750 mm long and 1 mm wide and covers the entire front up to the B-pillars. The roof bar above the windshield is painted black in this case. The electric "panoramic lifting roof" can be raised by 120 millimeters.

The Passat CC offers a new Media-In connector. It can be used to connect your iPod and other popular MP3 and DVD players to your car's audio system. The USB connector is located in the glove compartment, and the connected equipment is controlled by the radio or navigation system. Information about the music being played is shown on the radio or navigation display.

Standard equipment on the Passat CC will include Continental's "Mobility Tire" system, a first for Volkswagen. Using a solution called ContiSeal, the German tire manufacturer has developed a system to keep going despite a nail or screw in the tire. A special protective layer inside the tread immediately seals the hole formed after a tire puncture by a foreign body so that air does not escape. This seal works in almost all cases where the tires are punctured by objects up to five millimeters in diameter. About 85 percent of sharp objects that damage tires have these diameters.

Passat CC, positioned by the importer as a premium car of the middle class, is offered in only one, rich equipment option. Standard equipment includes: 17-inch alloy wheels (Phoenix type) with 235 tires, chrome inserts (inside and out), four ergonomic sports seats (single rear), new three-spoke steering wheel, automatic air suspension. “Climatronic” air conditioning, ESP electronic stability control, RCD 310 radio system with CD and MP3 player and automatic dipped beam.

The main markets for the Passat CC are North America, Western Europe and Japan. Produced at the German plant in Emden, Volkswagen in Poland will be offered from June. From the fourth quarter, the Passat CC will also be launched in the US, Canada and Japan. Prices in Poland will start from about 108 thousand. PLN for the basic version with 1.8 TSI engine.
