Volkswagen Tiguan - family challenges
For several months now, at AutoCentrum.pl, we have been accepting a brave companion for work, free time, best and worst days – the Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 BiTDi with R-line package. It doesn't take longer to notice that the tasks we set for him are the perfect simulation of family life with a car in the background. But is it really the background? How will the tested Volkswagen behave in everyday "home" use? We tested this with different configurations.
Parents go to work, kids go to school
This is what a typical day in a stereotypical family looks like. First we see each other for breakfast, then everyone takes their places in the Tiguan. While there is undeniably plenty of room for the driver and front passenger - even for the most demanding, we were pleased to see the same applies to teenagers traveling in the second row. Even when using a full seat for a small child, there is no risk of "trampling" the upholstery of the front seat. Slightly older children who do not need to use a special playground have even more space at their disposal. This can be effectively limited to a folding notepad, but if you use one, you get space to develop your creativity in drawing (and a moment of blissful peace for parents). What's going on in the school parking lot? High school boys will surely appreciate the R-line styling package, which lends a pugnacious edge to the car's already sharp silhouette. On the other hand, their parents will surely take a breath from the markings, which indicate a very pleasant to handle and dynamic 2-liter diesel engine with a capacity of two liters and 240 hp. Real connoisseurs will quickly guess that the Tiguan's acceleration to 100 km / h can take even less than 7 seconds.
The Volkswagen we tested is certainly not a polite, calm and reserved car. But it could be. And on request. The classic, slightly angular design can also successfully play a representative role, where our car is no longer judged by our children's classmates, but, for example, by a group of important company customers. Tiguan (especially in white) is definitely called "fashionable". It is also multitasking at the same time.
Parents on a fast trip, kids at school
The versatility of the Tiguan is undeniable in daily driving through the urban jungle. Despite its size, it's easy to forget that you're not driving a compact car. Mainly because of the steering system. This one works very smoothly, the assistance power is well matched, sometimes even too delicate, which in turn becomes invaluable during tight parking maneuvers. What is strikingly reminiscent of the Tiguan, which differs from most cars found in cities, is the high driving position, which contributes to excellent visibility.
We will also appreciate it during a quick trip out of town. Such an opportunity to come off only three of us - a couple and their Tiguan, allows us to recognize other positive aspects of the tested car. It is not for nothing that we call spontaneous departure outside the settlement "fast". Only then, behind the wheel of a Volkswagen, can we experience the aforementioned figures: 240 hp, about 7 seconds to a hundred and 500 Nm of torque already above 1750 rpm. And suddenly it turns out that pleasure can be obtained not only at the destination, but also during the journey itself. We will definitely not stand in traffic jams and will be able to pick up the children from school on time. On the other hand, when we are at the destination of this fast journey, the advantages are clear: after the rear seat is folded out, the boot offers us more than 1600 liters of space and plenty of room even to sleep. An added bonus is romantic stargazing through the panoramic glass roof. Can we not risk the thesis that the Volkswagen Tiguan is somewhat of a pro-family car…?
Parents and children on vacation
We found the Volkswagen Tiguan to handle family tasks both in and out of the city without too much trouble. However, from time to time comes the real test - a family vacation. And this is where slightly different numbers come into play. When the car is fully loaded (small and large), the rear seat cannot be expanded, so we have a rather impressive trunk capacity - 615 liters. If it was not enough, you can try using a roof container without hesitation. What is important - the installation of factory roof rails and fasteners does not interfere with the use of a panoramic glass roof in full functionality, including its opening. The luggage compartment should not bother us. And what are the driving performance, the question of comfort and efficiency of the Tiguan on the go? What is important and worth repeating in this text: after completing each difficult task, the Tiguan immediately seems ready for new challenges, for example, family ones.
