Volvo Modular engine

A series of gasoline and diesel engines Volvo Modular engine was produced from 1990 to 2016 in atmospheric and supercharged versions.

A series of petrol and diesel engines Volvo Modular engine was assembled from 1990 to 2016 at the concern's engine plant in the Swedish city of Skövde in versions for 4, 5, 6 cylinders. In addition to Volvo cars, these units were installed on Renault as the N-series and on Ford as the Duratec ST.

Volvo Modular engine petrol engines

The development of a modular family of engines, codenamed X-100, began back in the 70s, but the first unit of the series was introduced only in 1990 and it was the 6-cylinder B6304S. A year later, an internal combustion engine for 5 cylinders appeared, and in 1995, a junior 4-cylinder engine appeared. The design of the internal combustion engine for that time was advanced: an aluminum block with cast-iron sleeves, an aluminum head with two camshafts, hydraulic lifters and a timing belt drive.

Allocate three generations powertrains: R 1990, RN 1998 and RNC 2003:

first equipped with a classic ignition system and V-VIS system in some versions.

Second received individual ignition coils and a VVT phase shifter on the intake shaft.

The third it was distinguished by a lightweight block and a CVVT phase control system at the inlet and outlet.

The motors in the table are divided by the number of cylinders, volume, and also into atmospheric and supercharged:

Diesel engines Volvo Modular engine

Diesels of the modular family appeared somewhat later than gasoline internal combustion engines, only in 2001. The HFO powertrains also had an aluminum block with cast iron sleeves, an aluminum DOHC head with two camshafts, a timing belt drive and of course supercharging. Fuel injection was carried out by the Common Rail system with Bosch EDC15 or EDC16 equipment.

Allocate three generations such diesel engines: 2001 Euro 3, 2005 Euro 4 and 2009 Euro 5:

first equipped with a turbine with a vacuum drive and a CR system with el. / magnetic. nozzles.

Second received swirl flaps in the intake and an electrically driven and cooled turbine.

The third distinguished by a CR system with piezo injectors, a different damper system and dual boost.

We divided all diesel engines in the table according to the number of cylinders and displacement:
