Volvo redoubles efforts: by 2030 it hopes to produce only electric vehicles and sell them online

Volvo plans to become a premium all-electric car manufacturer by 2030.

On March 2, Volvo announced that it will only manufacture electric vehicles by 2030 and the sale of its cars will be exclusively online, through a platform e-commerce

With this, Volvo is not only announcing its full switch to electric vehicles, it is also planning to change the way it sells and plans a business transformation.

"Our future is driven by three pillars: electricity, online and growth" . “We want to offer customers peace of mind and a stress-free way to own a Volvo without the hassle.”

The brand explains that although making electric vehicles is very complicated, buying one does not have to be complicated.

Volvo, with this new way of selling its cars, changes the way customers are going to see cars, places and the way they offer their products. The brand thinks about these changes so that everything is more convenient for its customers.

The Swedish automaker plans to welcome its customers with sweeping offers made simple to understand when ordering online. Volvo says it has made it easier than ever to get a new Volvo, reducing the number of steps involved and showing customers more preconfigured cars and transparent pricing.

So, according to the manufacturer, getting in the hunt for a new electric Volvo can now be a matter of minutes, plus preconfigured cars will be available for quick delivery.

However, most of Volvo's sales will continue to take place at retailers' showrooms.

“Online and offline must be fully and seamlessly integrated,” added Lex Kerssemakers. “Wherever customers are online, in the showroom, in the Volvo studio or behind the wheel of a car, customer service must be second to none.”

While the brand is now more focused on the online platform, its retail partners remain a critical component of the overall customer experience.

The manufacturer explains that dealerships continue to be a fundamental part of the success and will continue to delight our customers when, for example, they need to pick up a new car or take it in for service.

What's more, the shift to all-electric cars is part of an ambitious plan to combat climate change.

Volvo wants to continuously reduce the carbon footprint of every vehicle throughout its life cycle through concrete actions.

Volvo's plan is to become a car manufacturer prize fully electric by 2030. According to the manufacturer, by this date it wants to become a leader in this market segment, and its goal is to eliminate cars with an internal combustion engine from its entire lineup, including hybrids.
