Volvo has also undergone a transformation - from an angular dump truck, it has turned into a pretty cool brand that appeals to both the old woman and the young. This is especially evident in the example of modern models. However, you have to start somewhere. One of the first models with a new image was the Volvo V70. Is it worth buying used?

Volvo at the end of the last century was famous for its angularity and as the millennium approached, it decided to change its target group from people 50+ to 30+. And in the impulses of even younger ones. After all, we must not forget about one thing - square bodies, at least, had a great zest and often hid spectacular possibilities. Gorgeous supercharged petrol engines and five-cylinder diesel engines made driving Swedish limousines a pleasure. Therefore, fans of the brand were horrified when they saw the new lineup. However, it turned out that the changes are not so bad.

The second generation Volvo V70 was built on the P2 platform. More precisely, it is also used by the flagship S80 model, but shortened for the needs of the younger brother. And since nothing is lost in nature, the rear seat passengers suffered. The V70 II was inspired by the first generation of the 90s. The car still looked massive, but interesting chasing and many soft lines added freshness. And this despite the fact that initially they were quite controversial. The manufacturer even left huge taillights extending from the bumper to the roof. The only thing that surprised me was their shape, like the whole body. Despite this, all this was quite elegant and even today looks fashionable. How about durability?

LAND IS CONVENIENT TO CHOOSE

The Volvo V70 is not a particularly problematic model, although one thing is worth knowing - as with cars, you need to find the right choice and choose the right version. Especially in the initial period of production, the manufacturer struggled with childhood diseases. What should you be afraid of?

In older models, the electronic throttle can cause a lot of trouble, as it often fails. In addition, it is better to beware of automatic transmissions - they are underdeveloped. You can overprotect them and they will break at the most inopportune moment because the mechanics do it. Repairs usually don't pay off, and a used item is just as dangerous as running through a minefield, because it can break too. As a result, it often becomes necessary to purchase a new transmission from a Volvo dealership. Of course, at a terrible price, which is why manual transmissions are the safest. By the way, you should avoid specimens with a self-leveling suspension. It does not withstand the funnels on our roads, and the prices for individual shock absorbers reach up to 2. zł.

The remaining faults are no longer extremely serious. Electronics failure is not a surprise in modern cars. Just like the errors saved in the computer. Classic suspension, on the other hand, most often struggles with short-lived stabilizer links, tie rods, shock absorbers and rocker arms. By the way, engine components are also quite delicate. The ignition system, alternator, throttle, turbo and flow meter may be emergency. And why is this car convincing in itself?

SWEDISH CLIMATE

Volvo invented three point seat belts in cars and I think they've been saying since then that the safety theme is a bargaining chip. This continues to this day, with the V70 earning a maximum 5-star rating in EuroNCAP crash tests. You can also expect a healthy handful of active and passive safety features and pretty good comfort equipment as standard. In the secondary market, it is very easy to purchase a copy with a set of airbags, traction control, air conditioning and extensive electrics. A relatively large number of copies also have leather or semi-leather upholstery and the already mentioned emergency machine. The quintessence is the navigation screen, which gadget-like leaves the windshield - passengers will swoon with delight.

Despite this, the Volvo V70 is losing its value rather quickly and can now be rented at a fairly attractive price. What are drivers afraid of? Basically a rather expensive service. In daily use, the average rear seat volume and narrow door pockets can also be a concern. By the way, the quality of some plastics in the cabin could be better. After all, Volvo is striving for the premium segment. However, we can safely say one thing - in the V70 you can get a lot of driving pleasure.

FIVE GAR AND ON THE WAY

The manufacturer is currently moving away from five-cylinder engines, but in the V70 II, these units were great. Diesel engines 2.4 l - 2.5 l / 130 hp were offered to choose from. - 185 hp and gasoline engines 2.4 l - 2.5 l / 140 hp - 300 hp Despite the odd number of cylinders, the motors perform well, but they still lack many V-engines of similar power. Even petrol versions, unfortunately, transmit vibrations to the cabin at idle. Luckily, all you have to do is move on for the problem to go away.

The weakest petrol engine doesn't knock you down, but supercharged versions can quickly please you on the road. The salon is perfectly soundproofed, so only a pleasant whisper reaches the salon. By the way, large and spacious seats do not tire on long trips. Even the 200hp version is very agile and ready to go. At the lowest rpm it has a moment of weakness, but already below 2000 rpm. suddenly receives a power boost that lasts until shutdown. Combustion? About 11l / 100km, which is not so tragic for the power and size of the car. The ride is further made more enjoyable by the suspension, which nonetheless emphasizes comfort while providing good handling. Only in tight corners does the heavy front end have a slight tendency to come out of the corner, but the car is still predictable.

The Volvo V70 II was one of the first models from the brand to take a risk and change its image. This is right? I think so, because thanks to this you can buy a car in which everyone looks good. And to achieve this is not so easy.
