4. Degreaser. The solution is used to clean the surface before welding.
5. Hammer and chisel. Tools are used to remove scale when checking the quality of welded seams.
6. heat resistant soil. At the last stage of work, the muffler is covered with a layer of protective primer or paint, this will extend its life.

Additionally, you will need sheet metal 2 mm thick for patches. The size of the pieces should be such as to completely cover the defect on the exhaust pipe.

Before welding damage, prepare the surface. The work consists in cleaning the surface with a brush with metal bristles or coarse sandpaper, it is necessary to remove traces of corrosion. Next, the damaged area is cut out with a grinder, once again the surface is well cleaned and degreased.

Exhaust system parts can be welded with electrodes up to 2 mm thick. If it is possible to purchase electrodes with a diameter of 1,6 mm, then it is better to take them.

1. The first stage is cleaning. Remove dirt, signs of corrosion with sandpaper or a metal brush. Then degrease the surface.
2. Prepare cold welding according to the instructions.
3. Carefully cover the muffler for the car, trying to completely block the hole.
4. Fix the parts in the required position until the composition has completely hardened.

Complete hardening occurs within a day, until this time the part cannot be used.

Ceramic Repair Tape

Another way to patch a car muffler without welding is based on the use of bandage ceramic tape. You can purchase this material at an automotive supply store. The use of tape is justified if the defect is small.

Schedule:

1. Thoroughly clean the repair area, the area must be clean, dry and free of grease.
2. Moisten the tape a little with water and apply like a bandage. Lay the coils in 8-10 layers with an overlap. Start winding, stepping back 2-3 cm from the damage site.

Now it remains to wait for the adhesive layer to harden, it takes 45-60 minutes. During this time, smooth the tape several times, this will improve the quality of the repair.

Sealant

You can seal a hole in the muffler on a car with a sealant. This method can be recommended if the damage is minor.

Sealing is carried out using a high-temperature sealant. Example: red Abro sealant.

Schedule:

1. Prepare the muffler in the same way as with ceramic tape, i.e. clean and degrease.
2. Next, moisten the sponge with water, moisten the surface to be treated.
3. Seal the damage with a sealant, applying the composition in an even layer, going into undamaged areas nearby.
4. Wait 30 minutes, after which the pipe can be put back in place.
5. Start the car engine at idle, let the engine run for 15 minutes. During this time, the metal will have time to heat up.
6. Shut off the engine, leave the car for 12 hours for the sealant to fully cure.

It makes sense to seal the muffler in any way if the damage is small. The service life after such a repair - whether cold welding is used for a car muffler or another quick method - depends on the degree of stress. The more actively the car is used and the worse the general condition of the exhaust system, the less the repaired part will last. In case of serious loads, it is better to immediately contact the service, welding the car muffler will help repair the pipe with high quality and for a long time.
