Here are the most common reasons why your car is losing oil.

All engine oil leaks must be repaired as soon as possible to prevent the engine from running at low lubrication levels and endangering engine life.

Motor oil is one of those that keep the engine running properly and guarantee the life of the engine.

An engine oil leak is a common problem that can have many causes, and whatever it is, it's best to make the necessary repairs as quickly as possible.

However, here we have compiled four of the most common reasons why your car is leaking oil.

1.- Defective rings or valve seals

When valve rings and seals are worn or corroded, this means oil can leak or slosh out of the chamber, causing the dual problem of losing oil where it is needed and oil in the combustion chamber where it can interfere with the combustion process.

When the oil flows out in this way, you will not see any marks on the ground, but when enough oil has accumulated in the combustion chamber, it will burn in the exhaust system and come out as blue smoke.

2.- Bad connections

Improper gasket installation can result in oil loss. Even if the gasket is not tightened as specified by the manufacturer, it may crack or slip, resulting in oil leakage.

Gaskets can also be damaged by dust and dirt kicked up from the road, allowing engine oil to seep through the holes.

3.- Incorrect installation of the oil filter

We need to make sure we put on and tighten the oil filter correctly. If installed incorrectly, oil will seep between the filter base and the engine.

Oil passes through the oil filter before entering the engine, so a leak can be a serious problem. This leak is easy to spot because it leaves marks on the floor and the filter is almost always in plain sight.

4.- Damage to the oil pan can lead to oil leakage.

The oil pan is under the engine, making it very vulnerable to bumps or cracks from road hazards such as potholes, bumps, dirt and more.

These elements are made of special materials to withstand harsh conditions, but over time and from impact, they begin to weaken and may even break.

This leak is easy to find and needs to be fixed quickly because if the problem becomes more severe, you can lose a lot of oil in a short time and put the engine at risk.
